This is advertised as a Vintage Artist with a Lawsuit headstock. Not hardly. But it is very intriguing. Anybody know what it really is?

I remember that guitar from a couple of years ago on EBay..If memory serves me correctly there were actually two of them..Homemade/Altered guitars..doubtful that its an Ibanez-this is a solid guitar (like a 2617)the neck does not appear to be laminated either, except for side wings...

Its sort of 2683ish without as much junk in the trunk. And with pointier horns.

I can't imagine its an Artist though...

If you look the headstock/neck area. notice that there is no volute, the body is 2-piece, but very seldom do the factories make off-center joints.. Neck-to body joint is also quite innovative, tho say the least..
Verdict: definitely homemade one. :-)

Guys:

Yeah, it's reminiscent of an Artist, but not recognizable in any details as one.

However, as a double-cut guitar fan (Artist, SG, Melody Maker, LP Jr., Westbury Custom) I have to say that this thing is touching some nerve inside, that I can explain.

I'd love to talk to the maker! If I made it, I'd be proud enough to put some kind of name on it. However, I'm not convinced that $400.00 is such a good deal for a no-name, homemade instrument.

Fox,

I'm not sure I agree with the statement:

"but very seldom do the factories make off-center joints"

There's nothing that will dampen sound more than a glue joint. I would argue that the correct way to join a body is off-center, so the bridge is not on the center of the joint.

If look carefully at well made guitars, they all join the body on either side of the bridge.

Keep in mind that this doesn't apply to veneer tops or "caps", which are mostly asthetic, but to the core body wood to which the bridge attaches.

Jeff, I was quite sure that someone will say something.. :-)
Well-made guitars, true, but "your average mass-product" is easier to make from 2 identical halves.. that was my point, in the 2-part body- question..
Besides, the joint in that body seems to be extremely well made..
