Brazilians do it better ;) She's a phenomenon. Recorded one year ago an acoustic trio album with guitar giants Coryell and Abercrombie. She uses a nylon-stringed Takamine Hirade H5SC. That's the case to say that this lad has got the... guts. P. |

Wow, that's impressive! There's an article about her in the latest GP. She suffers some kind of neurological disorder that affects here hands. She had to take 2 years off from playing, and alter her style considerably. |

She has 2 brothers, Sergio, and Odair, who also play professionally. They are also outstanding, just not as well known here on the Best (ah, west) Coast. |

I did a little surch on her two brothers …. They are among the best classical guitar players in the world. “The Assads' American career began in 1969, under the "Youth for Understanding" aegis. A major prize at the "Rostrom of Young Interpreters" in Bratislava, Czechoslovakia, launched their European career. They also achieved victory in the 1973 Brazilian Symphonic Orchestra competition for young soloists. They have performed in recital and with orchestra throughout USA, France, Germany, Austria, Belgium, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Greece, Poland, Luxembourg, Slovenia, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Scandinavia, Australia, Great Britain, the Far East, Argentina, and their native Brazil.” Many composers wrote and dedicated music to them. They played (I think recorded) with Yo-Yo Ma (one of the most famous virtuosos on the cello in the 20th/21st century). They also play other styles. |

Ohmigod, that's just SICK! I must be next in line for Kharma to make me a talented player in my next life because I'm surely gaining humility from that video! |

She is great and also sings perfect , if i'm well informed she will be doing some gigs in July in Germany. The song sounded like a Milton Nascimento song...but Petruz might know this better.... Her brothers are also killers on the violao (acoustic guitar).... Petruz is right brazilian's do it better...if it is soccer or whatever....i have been in Brasil the last 6 years about 30 times and i'm always amazed about the level of the musicians, guitars players are just so good everywhere you go in Brasil, and they play alot of styles too, so it isn't only Bossa Nova...i heard shredders, metal, choro, samba players just name it , sometimes it was better to leave the guitar in the case.....also some 7 string guitarists..(check out Rafeal Rabello) or the new guy in that genre Yamandu Costa....in jazz they have a great tradition...like Helio Delmiro...or even they have their own Django called 'Garoto"......one of my favourites is Lula Galvao you guys should check him out...both on electric and acoustic a master.....lot of guys play also a lot of other instruments too (like percussion) check out the great composer like Egberto Gismonti....check out names like Joa Bosco, Filo Machado or Guinga...great composers and players. Nice thing about the brazilians i met , is that they always will show you some interesting musical things when you play with them....they share..and that's a nice thing....always something new to learn.... check out this link about hybryd picking written by a Brazilian Guitarist with some nice examples. http://jamacy.web.aplus.net/welcometogustavoassisbrasilcom/id15.html |
