A few weeks ago I had 3 or 4 of these in my hands on a musical instruments fair. I didn't buy one then either. The fair was not a success because of the heat wave.
I was one of the few people who actually bought an instrument: an old Jarock set neck guitar very similar to the Ibanez ST105, but with a hardtail strat bridge.
(Nice for experiments with my different Gibson humbuckers)

The price is not bad, but this type of mandolins is not my favourite. I like A-types, F-types and Portuguese and Irish models more, because they're not so round, have a wider neck and sound more country/folk. This one is for classical mandolin orchestra music. These instruments are quite expensive when you buy them new.

Perhaps classical players don't look for instruments on ebay. There is also a lot of influence of the conductor/teacher on the choice of the instruments. If you want to play in the orchestra you must buy a brand x instrument. Often these conductors/teachers get commission for each sold brand x instrument from a shop that is the only authorized dealer in the neighbourhood that sells brand x.

These teachers contact the shops, in order to get a commission contract. If they don't go along, they go to another shop and advice their students another brand.

You could call it corruption...

Ibanez dealers don't go along because their existence is not depending on mandolin sales to orchestra members and music school students, but on free guitar players who buy what they like.

Freedom means: let your ears be the judge!

Some teachers develop their own wallet instead of their students' ears. Some criticize instrument brands they have never played themselves and warn their students not to buy these "bad" instruments.

That was a typo up there freak, "in" should have been "is".

Meaning this is certainly worth the money if you like mandolins. I also like the A and F types better.

Indeed a brand with an identity of its own, until recently I understand after reading this, Freak.
That's what I like: these flatter backs are more comfortable to hold, while these pear-shaped backs always want slip away from your body.
I guess this one would sound nice in an Irish session. It's not a cheap brand. I saw their guitars.
You won't find these for $100.= !!!

I'll try to upload a picture of a nice Ibanez two point bluegrass mandolin of a friend of mine later. (Never done that before, but as I believe it was you who guided someone through the procedure a few weeks ago, so I'll use the search option first and read how it works.)

I have several brands, but not an Ibanez (yet).
(I bought his 1935 Gibson A-00 a few years ago.)

Yeah they made some lovely mandolins. I just orded one of the new A style Ibanez with the pup. It wil be my beater mando. The Tacoma is solid woods (mahogany back and sides , ebony board and bridge) so I needed a laminate one for taveling ect. I hope Ibanez continues the mandolin line for a while. Maybe we will see some beautys again!

Thanks Freak, that was an enjoyable walk thru some of Ibanez's finest history. The Artist's, both banjos and mandolins, are stunning.
