Heard about these but never fondled one and like a London bus, two come along at once. http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-1751-2978-71/1?AID=5463217&PID=1802666&mpre=ht tp%3A//cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll%3FViewItem%26item%3D200048990757 http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-1751-2978-71/1?AID=5463217&PID=1802666&mpre=ht tp%3A//cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll%3FViewItem%26item%3D160056179941 six |

Six: I just picked up a book with lots of Greco info in it: Japan Vintage, Vol. I from Shinko Music Pub., Co. Copyright 2003. Unfortunately, almost all the text is in Japanese, so all I can do is look at the pictures. The Greco above is a GOII-750 DST. It's certainly the first cousin of the Ibanez Musician series. While the guitars that are the roots of the Ibanez and Greco brands are so similar, there was a concerted effort to distance the two brands. It's cool to see the "direction" that Greco designers took. To me, the trems and bridges have a more retro look. You can't see them in the auction photos, but these GOIIs had Kluson-like inline tuners. Notice that the GOII-750 has a headstock shaped like an Ibanez Blazer/Roadster/Roadstar. My initial reaction was this had to be related to the RS1500 that appeared in '83. But there are more differences that similarities. Unlike Ibanez, Greco got away with making LP replicas a lot longer. They also made many more setneck LPs than Ibanez. I really wish I had started collecting Greco LPs, like this one (from the same seller): http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-1751-2978-71/1?AID=5463217&PID=1802666&mpre=ht tp%3A//cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll%3FViewItem%26item%3D200051525670 |

Interesting stuff John. Aria were also making similar looking guitars back in the late 70's noteably the RS850. I've had 3 of these over the years and all were really well made. Yes the Greco Lesters were on par with Tokai at that time. Check out the wesite of fellow Tokai Registry Forum member 'Villager'... http://www.japanguitars.co.uk/ Some nice stuff there. Re: the lawsuit saga's. I'm told it's near impossible to sue anyone in Japan. Is this true? six |

Six: Something I forgot to mention. There were a lot of Greco GO (I, II, and III) that appear to be related to the Musicians and 2700 series Artists. But surprisingly, many have trems. I can't remember a single MC or 2700 factory-fitted with a trem. Anybody every see such an animal. Thanks for the link to japanguitars. Very nice site! Quite a few hours of photo viewing! Tokai, Burny, etc. Too many great Japanese guitars! BTW, The book I mentioned above also has some good photos and info on Fernandes and Yamaha guitars. Here's a picture of a Greco 335 replica that I saw at a recent guitar show. The tag says: "'79 Greco Super Real 335. $ Grand" I assumed that "Grand" meant $1,000.00. |

That looks like the SA120 or maybe the 900. Did you catch what was on the label inside the F hole? Great looking guitars and spot on spec wise. Thats a Tokai next to it. six |
