I still play around a little, mostly at my church, and for cummunity events. I also play a little bass with a gospel quartet. I have a friend that does a lot of performing( he is a retired major from the air force and i guess you couls say he found his voice late in life, he is in his 70's), he has a nice little home studio that i cut a 5 track cd in. mostly solo guitar stuff. i think i would be embarressed to let you guys hear it though becouse my playing is not what i would call good. lol

Wow, very nice, Dave! I especially like "Jam8" -- cuz I'm a sucker for smooth jazz. I take it that's an Ibanez you're playing on all the cuts? Sounds a lot like a 335, which I guess shouldn't be too surprising.

Did you use it in Jam10?

Lovely blues sound, love those Super 58's.

I have played on a few CD's and co-produced them playing electric guitar, acoustic guitar, mandolin and Hammond b-3 organ. I also play banjo and harmonica and I teach bass and guitar with a total of 12 students per week. As far as uploading anything It will have to wait till after the holidays.

Yes I play. I am what you would call an old school guitarist. My style is best characterised as a mixture of George Thorogood, Keith Richards, John Fogerty and Brian Setzer. I'm not saying that I'm as good as any of these guys but their styles are what other muso's can hear in my playing.

I have been gigging consistently for the last 12 years, once a week on average.

When I finally figure out how to copy from a DVD to You Tube I will point you to some video of my band.

Cheers,

Mark

This is hilarious....

Trust me, this is meant as a joke. My friends and I really like this cartoon and one particular episode featured a fake instructional video with some guy dressed up as a rocker, with some ridiculous shredding going on. So I reproduced it.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=-P08LL4rF_M

By the way, it is a 78 MC200.

Been playing since 1978. Ain't stopped yet. In fact, I left 2 bands when I migrated down under last December. Crossed my mind that I may never gig again when I moved to Oz but was very fortunate to find a band straight away. Lucky for me as probably would have gone stir crazy otherwise.

Oh yeah... very slick Daveh

Yeah, I know, because if you analyze the overzealous playing i did in that clip, you will see that there is a lot of stolen techniques of his. He is one of my favorites. The joke is not on Shawn Lane, we all know what a guitar heavyweight he was. The joke is on all of us who try to play like him.

I've been playin' off & on since '66. (Yes I AM an old fart.) Most of you know the cycle: "Play 'til it drives you crazy; quit 'til that drives you crazy."

Started with sax, in a soul band, while in Jr. High. Picked up guitar, bass, some keys & drums along the way. From soul to jazz-rock, to lounges, to power-funk, to solo acoustic, to classic rock.

Presently playing bass & some acoustic with another classic rock band called "Flashback", & we're concentrating on strong vocal harmonies (Beatles, CSN, Eagles, Byrds, etc.).

I used my Musician MC 300 a lot in the late '70s and early '80s on our live gigs and also for some demo recordings, because it was my first electric guitar. Here's a list of the available MP3s on our web site and a short description of the gear I used for the clips:

I played for a living(if you can call it that)during the 80's and 90's but retired from the road when the kids came. This vid is from 1992 when I was in a rock/metal band Mind Riot. Not one of my songs but I hope to salvage a few off the same tape.I'm the one in the dark with the DT-400 and the V on the right is also a Ibanez,it's one of my pre serial Rocket Roll's.

Russell,
Guys name is Dave Frankel, I have been playing with him on and off for about 17 years. Kind of funny that we play Dead with a guy with the Jerry resemblance, not really planned that way and if he REALLY wanted to look like Jerry he would need to gain oh about 100 pounds

These 2 songs of mine are made with just 2 rehearsals and two days in the studio. Half of the material was made in the studio. Im in the proces of making some more processed and worked through music. I wrote the songs, "sings"(looking for a new singer) and plays guitar. We are 2 guitarist playing. This is before I got my Ibanez. It was played with a Lag guitar(french brand)

Jim something that you said reminds me of something that Frank Zappa had said about a band that cut a record(they were not musicians lol!)I think it was an all girls ban i cant remember the name. He said "it was the greatest album he heard because they had no outside influence ,it was pure music "(im paraphrasing) This goes along the lines w/ "the sweetest sound" you mention, from a novist.I think you might be on to something!

Yeah Zappa is the perfect example. He owned his instrument. Boy could he play ! But still with the interest of a newbie or a child. Zappa was childish if anyone was ! :-)
It can seriously bring tears to my eyes when hearing a total newbie playing and see his/ hers joy. While Im out hearing the pros, I stand with my arms crossed and yawning :-)
Roughly said ..

Nice Jimi!

Am I mistaken or do I hear a lot of U2 influences (especially the guitar riff on "It´s not enough")

And for this kind of music style: your singing is not that bad at all!

Kind greetz and happy new year!

Yes there is a lot of U2 in that. I was considering not doing it because of that. I have some REAL singers that are glad to back me up. Im just dont have that gift. I mostly a songwriter. My guitarplaying aint that good either, compared to the amount of practice ive laid in it..

But thanks and happy new year to you too ..got it ? (U2) damn Im a comedian too !

BTW my new stuff will be far better than this, Im looking forward to play it to you.

Its just the greatest feeling in music and life , to come to breakthrough where you step into a new league. And new opportunities arise..to play with. Im having such a period right now. Suddenly my old songwriting seems pale, and the troubles I had before making the songs work , are gone. Now i cant stop.
Isnt it beautiful ?
Btw the 2700 is being played right now. Thank you all you guys at Ibanez. And thank you all you great musicians for making the world a great place.(Listening to Leonard Cohen now )

Hmm I making this into a chatforum ?

Are you from america ? I have a girlfriend that is studying here in Dk , she is from Arkansas, but have also lived in New York for 10 years. I love USA and what you have done for the free world. You are not perfect. But you have done a great job eliminating threats to the world trying to destroy freedom.

Music is all about being free.

My}} music is heavily inspired by americans and american history. Ive often been told that, and has thought the thought of moving to the states to see if my music could grow even further. Either to San Franscisco , La or NY.
I really think my music has potential. The two songs here are as much on a scratch level as a song can be. reeally polishing them , and work with a great producer, a super singer and even more skilled musicians could really lift this up.
So im not totally shy about my music :-) I just know what it takes to do the last bit. Maybe I never will. But damn the ride is fun !
It really warms my heart to hear such good respons . Thanks a million !!!!

And now Im going to blow of a some rockets here in Denmark. Maybe I will be in the states next year ? !

Happy nEw year once again to all of you.

and god bless the freedom to rock

Jimi,
music sounds great! And you have echoed a sentiment that I hold dear, and that is passion for the music and the ability to convey that passion is much more important to me that technical expertise (but boy wouldnt I love to have the chops of Shawn Lane or Buckethead anyway :-)
It is that passion that has me much more interested and moved by a 3 note BB King solo than a 1000 note second arpeggio run by Yngwie.

Oh yeah sweet BB. Just naming him brought a little tear to me eye. I will have to check out that Shawn Lane dude. Not one I ve heard of. Or perhaps I have without knowing ? I will google now :-)If any novices are reading this ..remember : not to solely base your playing to passion. I did that for many years. You need the tecnical expertise too ! It goes both ways. Not too technical, not too emotional. But more emotional if you ask me :-)

Checked out 4 Shawn Lane "tunes"... he's fast & accurate, but gimme BB or Clapton any day!

For a "chops" + "passion" player, I'll take Steve Howe... the best blend of the two I ever heard & saw.

Yes Ive heard 2 "songs" by him now. Not my thing . But very impressive nevertheless. Im not saying he is an . Its relevant and well done. But doesnt move me. But hey thats just 2 songs Ive heard.
My favorite guitarplayers:

Speed and passion : Kirk Hammet
Speed and a litte less passion : Steve Vai
Pure Passion : BB king
Melodymaking: Noel Gallagher and Jimmi Paige
Acoustic: John Mclauglin
Maniac playing :- ): Jimi Hendrix
And the most overlooked : Frank Zappa

and my favorite overall is ...tada ! : George Harrison !! I cried for hours when he died. Both Jimi Hendrix and Eric Clapton(his best friend) said that he was the king. He just never showed it publicly due to his humility. He wrote : Here Comes The Sun and one of the greatest lovesongs ever : Something. And a tribute to all of us players : While My guitar Gently sleeps. And " Taxman" amongst others. He was one the greatest songwriters and guitarplayers of our time. He just didnt make a great deal of it. He would let John and Paul claim the spotlight. Many has said that if it wasnt for George Beatles would never have been. He held the band together in Berlin while they were being young and foolish (meaning drinking and whoring :-))

Rest in peace brother

What a friendship!
They traded girlfriends like guitars:

http://members.fortunecity.com/pattiboyd/bio.html

- Clapton got George's attention when Pattie was away, and simply told him, "I'm in love with your wife." Harrison just replied, "Fine, you get her, I get your girlfriend." -

Hmmmm....I don´t know

To me I always switch "between two worlds" when it comes to guitar players: I like the fast shredders because of their technique and amazing speed and on the other hand I love the guitarists that concentrate on tone and melody.
One of my favourite "speedfreaks" is Yngwie (do I have to apologise now?) because of his unique fusion of rock and classical music. I think it´s a pity that he has become a caricature of himself nowadays and that he has stuck to the things he did in the eighties. But at that time everybody was amazed by his style and he was praised straight into heaven. His first 4 albums were really great!
When I think of "the other style of players" I immediately think of BB. He says more with one tone than Steve Vay with a million.
Some Vai stuff I like, though, but these are always the songs that have some melodic logic in them (understandable for my intelligence; maybe the other stuff is too difficult for me).
When I think of guitarists that have a balanced style between speed and melody I think of Joe Satriani and maybe even Gary Moore.

Anyway....I always search for "passion" in style, music and performance. When I see a guitarist with the "look at me how good I am"-attitude then something is missing. A guitarist should be fully occupied with his guitar instead of with the audience.

Just my thoughts....

Harry

I like the early Yngwie too ! And Kirk Hammet and dave Mustaine.

Others that has been " forgotten " in my post:

Eric Clapton, Slash, Toni Iommi, Zakk Wylde(he scares me..seriously ! )George Benson, Muddy Waters (simple but great), Robert Johnsón, Robert Cray,Pete Townsend, Satriani, the guitar player fra Jamiroqua (dont know his name. But he plays one of the tightest funk guitars ever) and the guitarplayer that has had the longest carrier with the same Riff: Angus Young :-)

I saw Black Sabbath last year in the original line up. I was amazed those old dudes seriously rocks !!!

Sweet Dreams

Jamiroquai's guitarist is called Rob Harris and he's really tight.
Nobody grooves funk better than Nile Rogers (the guy behind Chic and Sister Sledge) who also played some amazing guitar riffs on songs like Michael Jackson's "Rock With You", "Don't Stop 'till You Get Enough", "Dance Dance Dance", "Le freak", "Good Times", "I want your love", "He's the greatest dancer" , "We are family", Madonna's "Material Girl" and "Like a virgin" which he also produced, Duran Duran's "Notorious" and "The Reflex", David Bowie's "Let's dance", "China Girl" and much more.
He's got that incredible strat tone (out of a strat, ofcourse)
Simply, it can't get any better than this, imho.

Great stuff everyone,well done Jimi.
Great list of players mentioned also. Two more that mean alot to me are
Johnny Winter and
Michael Schenker during his 70's UFO era.
30-40 years later and I still get the same buzz when I here them play.

It wasn't me...but I did try.I thought I had that one that was all repaired,a '77 I think,(the white one he had in UFO)but I lost it at the end.
I also took a shot at a few of the Jacksons when Mustaine dumped his collection but those went through the roof. Those Y2KV's are very nice guitar.

My first guitar heroes were John Williams on the classical guitar and Hank Marvin on the Stratocaster. Both played Stanley Myers' "Theme from Deerhunter" or "Cavatina" back in 1977/'78.

From the moment I heard the Shadows playing this tune, I had to have a Stratocaster.
During summer vacation I helped my friend, who's dad took off with some blonde German chick he had met playing with his band over there, to pass his maths, so that he would get some compensation from his dad for leaving the family (really big presents he had promised, because he thought the boy wouldn't pass). The Dutch law on movies had just changed, and the minimum age for violent films had just gone from 14 to 12 years. And his mum was so glad I had managed to get his old man paying, that she bought us tickets for "The Deerhunter". This was the first time I heard the actual soundtrack, played by John Williams.

I figured the whole tune out by myself and performed the solo on classical guitar on the year concert of our local Music School.

On that same concert was the Music School band and they had what I really wanted: a '62 stratocaster. Being a kid, I didn't have much money, so I had to get in that band and I did and played it for a couple of years. But always solo's, melodies, just like Hank did.

Later I discovered that there was more than that and got more complete, because of other examples, mainly blues guitarists.

There was this "black blues player trapped in a white man's body" I think you like him too:

Yeah, John Williams is really, but I mean really, great.
Especially his fusion classical guitar playing with his fusion group "SKY" from the 80's, I remember that group also featured Herbie Flowers. Some killer stuff for sure.
Some of the music on SKY's albums reminds me a bit of Alan Parson's Project, for example, Mammagamma :-)
In a later period of the band, they were even a bit jazzy, I must say.

Thanks Fingers!
The instrumentals took no more than 45 minutes to record. They were just test tracks on new equipment. I left the mistakes which there were many!! Let you down was a throw away also. The singer had the riff which I overdubbed cuz he's a singer not a great player. You can hear his track faintly in the background. It was just a jam in down time of serious studio recording. I like the way this turned out better than when we were supposed to be serious. Check out the video section on the page. I did a gig in Atlantic City NJ. On about day 3 of getting f'd up, my buddy and I said why don't we make a music video. Some Drink Some Don't was a song I recorded and Had on my computer at the time. So we shot the video while we where at work. Another B side jam that turned into a song. Fox! I beg to differ. You guys play well!!!! I almost get a Zevon vibe with a little more honkytonk piano. DaveH, I Couldn't play your song for some reason.
Peace All, Keep Playing!!!
