That way if you do get outbid it was for more than you wanted to pay. If you just dink and dunk bid all during the auction you inflate what you should be paying and probably will incite some knucklehead to outbid you. If you SNIPE at the end you take out the opposition without them ever knowing you were in contention until they see your name as the winning bidder...
