Selling on eBay - key word spamming

Author Message Brentm Username: Brentm Registered: 03-2005 Posted on Wednesday, January 10, 2007 - 10:42 am:    Well, I thought it'd never happen to me, but I had one of my aucitons pulled for the words "Les Paul". My Ibanez 2342 is up for sale and was doing well. Anyway, I got 10 emails for the same auction (talk about spam!) saying that it was pulled. Is it true that those words are protected by international copyright laws? I searched eBay and found a ton of guitars usign Les Paul for-sale that were not Gibby/Epi. Is it safe to assume that the words "Stratocaster' and the words "Les Paul" are protected to Fender and Gibson/Epiphone (respectively)? What a pain. Bigmike Username: Bigmike Registered: 10-2002 Posted on Wednesday, January 10, 2007 - 3:36 pm:    There are people that haunt eBay looking for stuff that irritates them - some people regularly seach music cds, concert dvds, guitar auctions LOOKING to report someone for what THEY feel is in anfringement on copyright or artist royalties. These people got nothing better to do. Relist is as G-style or LP Style and you probably can get by. Maybe just listing it with the model number will get you the buyers you REALLY want, Ibanez collectors. It's not consistent and I know you feel slighted or cheated, but it's how it goes there. List it again, it'll sell. Did you list it here yet in the Free Classifieds ?? You might turn it over faster than you realize. But perhaps this wasn't the reason. Did it have a Gibson open book headstock? If not, you shouldn't call it a lawsuit. But you could call it a post-lawsuit. They might be. Ya BigMike - I've seen many auctions disappear because eBay has been heavy handed. I suspect that the heavy hand helps with things like counterfeit merchandise, etc. But this is a little much. Isn't it about time another auction site sprung up and became popular to dethrone eBay? With all the Paypal horror stories, rising fees, etc, you'd think that someone would swoop in to give them a run for their money. Google??? Are you listening? "dethrown"But to me ppl are afraid to meet- to complete the deal(you never really know who your meeting)I had nothing but a great experiences with C/L.But i agree we need an alternitive to e-bay,if for no other reason the fees are too high. Let's face it... eBay is the '95 AOL' of buying & selling on the net, at this point. If you want to appeal to "the masses"... they're IT. It's gonna take something WAY better to knock them off their present pedestal. Brent... Copyrighted or not... doesn't matter... You have to speak in "code" on the Bay. I bought some good stuff on C/L Bought my Ibanez AS-80,Fender the Twinn Amp,and a few other goodies.Also another prob is i dont have Tom- Tom- Go and Google maps is not always the best thing to use to get to my destination.A lot of good stuff that catches my eye is more than 100miles away- most of the time.Thats where e-bay out performs C/L I.M.O.
