I'll try to post some pictures in the evenings (or early morning) each day. Stay tuned to this thread for updates. This show they are focusing on the 20th Anniversary guitars, like the JEM. For Ibanez, Winter NAMM is mostly about selling this year's new models and supporting the current endorsers, like Vai, Satriani, Korn, etc. These guys sell a lot of units. Lots of dealers and buyers for the big chains come to the booth, see what's available and place orders for the next 6 months, or more. That's a lot of work being written. I've never been to Summer NAMM, but I'm told it's much more subdued. That's when they chose to announce the Artwood Twin, last year. Fingers: I doubt that any of the high-end reissues will be made in China.   Bobzilla Username: Bobzilla Registered: 02-2005 Posted on Tuesday, January 16, 2007 - 12:44 pm:    Hey John, even though it's too early, when the time comes, steer 'em away from the ar5000 reissue idea. How 'bout an "MC"5000 but... with super 58's in 'em instead. Folks keep wanting an ar5000 but how many will be able to dump the coin on 'em anyway? Few. How many ICW guys dumped the coin on the Twin reissue.... few. MC5000 with different pups covers alot of ground. It's vintage look, with improved pups and... actually would be a "new" model at the same time (because of the pups.) And a more affordable axe, I would imagine. More accessible to more folks than an ar5000. The one MC5000 I've seen is really one of the most beautiful Ibanez axes I've ever seen. Do I have my own "selfish" reasons for saying this stuff?... yes, of course, but the MC5000 is still valid. Looking forward to NAMM Photos. Sorry for the delays in getting pictures up. But here's the first installment for Thurs. Freak, you wanted to see the AR305? Here you go. It's not a bad-looking Korean made guitar, but if you've ever held a "vintage" AR305 you'll notice the difference right away. Here's one of my favorites for 2007, the ARC500NT. A real step up from the ARC300. The attention to detail on this Chinese made guitar definitely reminds you of the Artcore Custom AF models. This has flame maple wood binding on the body, all around the fretboard and headstock. Looks like a rosewood truss rod cover and recessed wood control knobs. It also has a real mahogany control cavity cover on the back! Here's "Mac" from Hoshino holding it up. Sorry, but no pictures do this quilted blonde maple top justice. I met some interesting people, Here's Rich Harris of Ibanezrules.com (a fellow New Jerseyite, btw.) and "Mac". This is Ibanez endorser, Dave Manley. I met him last year and he was very cool to hang with again. He's posing in front of the picture of him that Ibanez uses for their booth display. Only now he's 70 lbs. lighter. He did it riding his bike and working out at the gym, he says. And he got a haircut. This time he was into playing jazz on an Ibanez classical guitar. Here's the standard lineup in the Jazz Signature series, GB10, GB15 (the GB200, not shown), the PM120 and the JSM100.   Johns Username: Johns Registered: 02-2001 Posted on Saturday, January 20, 2007 - 12:57 am:    Today (Friday) I met some more cool people. Some of you already know that Paul Gilbert is really into older Ibanez. He told me he loves his 2630 and just bought a couple Performers, too. He's now an honorary member of ICW. Hopefully, I'll be able to get him to talk more about his collection. Larry Mitchell is a longtime Ibanez endorser and player. His first Ibanez was a goldtop LP repilca. He still has it (and a burst LP, too). Larry's a card-carrying member of ICW. He told me he just got an older 2811 classical on ebay that he loves. Here's Steve Vai signing autographs and getting his picture taken with adoring fans. This is Carol Kaye. I met her last year and found out that she was a session player (mostly bass) on lots of very famous songs, movie and TV tunes over many decades. Check out www.carolkaye.com for lots of good stuff. You MUST check out the "Biography" and "Library" sections to read about some of the songs she's been part of and even see the royalty checks she's received. Carol endorses the SRX700 bass, but is a very good Jazz guitarist, too. He was lured away by Yamaha, where he designed the Pacifica series. After some time he left and ended up working for Line 6. Now he's a Consultant for the Guitar industry. I met him through a mutual friend, when he played the Blue Note in NYC. He has since moved to LA and was demoing guitars at the Quest International booth when we met up, again. Quest was featuring beautiful Landscape acoustic and archtop jazz guitars, as well as electric guitars and basses with the Sugi brand name. Hiro fell in love with the Sugi electric he is holding (made expecially for the NAMM show) and just had to have it. So, he bought it on Sunday and took it home with him. The gentleman on the other side is "Nick" Sugimoto. He makes the Sugi guitars and basses and is instrumental in the design and production of the Landscape guitars. He and his "uncle" are also VERY important to the Hoshino organization and it's history. Sugi is the "small factory" that made the Bob Weir Cowboys, 2670re and Gary Willis basses. Nick worked at HoshinoUSA, PA in the late 70s. Trivia: while there, he repaired Denny Lane's Artwood Twin while he was on tour with Paul McCartney and Wings. When he went back to Japan he worked at Fujigen for many years. He was in R&D, so he was involved in a lot of brands and guitars, including the first JEMs (which reached the 20th anniversary, this year). Nick and some other Fujigen luthiers were responsible for getting the president of Fujigen to rescind the decision to get completely out of making setneck guitars. (You'll notice that most setneck guitars from the late 80s are Iida and Terrada made.) "Uncle" Atsuo Tsukada, worked at Fujigen and was involved in making the original Artwood Twins. He also made the first GB10s. Check out the Sugi guitar website, they aren't just living in the past (but aren't we thankful that they can?). Their current offerings are top-quality, high-end, hand-made instruments. You can't see it in the pictures but they had a beautiful popular top bass on display at the booth ($5000.00 wholesale!). I got to learn of some of the details in making the 2670re and will include them in a separate thread. The top is an EWC30ASERLG (Ash top, back and sides, low gloss finish), the middle is the EW20SMENT (Spalted maple top, back & sides, natural high gloss) and on the bottom is the EW20KOENT (Koa top, back & sides, natural high gloss). On the bottom is the EW20ASNT (Ash top & body, natural high gloss) which doesn't have the cutaway or the electronics. Then I moved to L.A. and worked for Relativity out there. It's a ways back, but he was quite the guitar player back then (Rob). I also met Vai and Satch because... they were on the Relativity label. I believe both are from NY, specifically ... Long Island? (My neck of the woods.) I may be wrong there, but I think it's the case.
