OK, I thought that the "new" serial numbering system was "F" for Japanese built, and "C" for Korean. What's this serial number mean: S4080732 Here's the guitar attached to the number: IBANEZ ARTSTAR - BEAUTIFUL NATURAL WOOD COLOR WITH ROSEWOOD NECK - DOT INLAY - SET-IN NECK - 2 HUMBUCKING PICK-UPS |

I was wondering if it meant "Samick"? |

How about "Subcontract". I think it's fairly well documented that some of the lower end models get built by other factories using ibanez specs. |

Here's yet another variant. I have in my hand a pointy headstock neck. The serial number is P710834. Made in Korea. No idea of model as it's just a neck I pick-up recently. Steve |

Steve: From the condition, do you think it's an '87 or '97? Were they using Korean factories in '87? |

John, Best guess is '97. The headstock does not indicate the series. Possibly a low-end RG? Steve |

Here's another: There's an AS200 on ebay with the serial number: H803947. The headstock shape makes it an early Artstar, so it's an '88, not a '98. I guess this would be an August '88 item? |

Hmmm... You know, I wonder if somebody over in the land of the rising sun doesn't do this on purpose. Just to mess with our minds! Lol !! So this AS200 can't be a 1980, huh? That'd be too simple, I know. The fun just never ends! Steve |

John, The "H" on the set neck style guits actually indicates that it was made by Hoshino and Not fuji Gen....... Same with the PS10's reissues all have an "H" instead of an "F"... Made in Japan in script writing as well |

(Just couldn't stand seeing this blank open for for 5 years) Often the answers are already there. We just don't know where to look. Here's an answer from the lost and found department. This is what the P stands for: http://www.kcckp.net/de/periodic/korea/index.php?contents+1408+2006-06+52+22 BTW this answer came from Scott Ibnzplyr Greetz, Ginger Ale |

"Often the answers are already there. We just don't know where to look." There's a search engine for this forum in the utilities menu. "We" make use of it. The Bear |
