Just got back from a lunch hour visit to a local music store to check out the Ibanez's (and hopefully find an old one in the used section. No luck on the used Ibanez's but got roped into test driving a brand new $2700 PRS.
Never played a PRS before. Still don't know what the big deal is. My Ibanez's would blow its quilted maple top right off. The neck felt like real lightweight mahogany, making it feel like a budget guitar. It was also set up like crap. Nice woodgrain, though.
I may be the first person I've heard slam a PRS. Anyone else get the same impression of these over priced beauties? |

Lots of folks don't like them. There's been a big thread recently with lots of such opinions over on the Fender Discussion Page. |

Good to know I'm not alone. HAD to go home and plug in every Ibanez I own straight into my Hiwatt Bulldog (with EV speaker) as a comparison to the PRS into a Marshall JCM2000 half stack. My guitars through my amp completely blew away the tone at the music store. Much more sustain, tone, and complex grind. The best description I can give is that the PRS/Marshall sounded like a large dog bark and my Ibanez/Hiwatt sounded like a rolling clap of thunder. Don't think I'll EVER look at buying a guitar that doesn't say Ibanez (or Greco...) on the headstock. Don't think I'll be rushing out to buy a Marshall, either (although I wouldn't rule them out entirely). |
