I bought the 2 CD set, George Benson Anthology a couple of weeks ago. It contains 32 tracks and comes with a 48 page booklet filled with pictures and a bio of GB. Of course, I digested the pictures right off. But it's taken this long to actually read the tastefully composed short story of GB's career and experiences. I recommend the set, wholeheartedly. For the Ibanez enthusiast, George shows off various GB10s and and his flamey maple anniversary issue, very prominently. (I'm sure Hoshino is happy about that.) But, as mentioned by Harold Wherry elsewhere on this Discussion Board, GB has also been photographed playing an FG100! Here's the proof. The first is actually the cover shot of the CD box and the second is from the accompanying booklet. There's also mention on page 24 of GB designing the GB10 and GB20 for Ibanez. If you want to see the first guitar GB designed at age 15, (which his stepfather actually built and GB gigged with) then you'll have to get the CD set and the booklet. All I can say is, I'm glad his tastes changed by the time Ibanez approached him in '77. J To be fair to the other guitar companies of the world, there are very early photos where he's shown with what appear to be a Fender, a D'Angelico and a Charlie Christian, among others. A very tasty treat for GB fans. |
