Just bought a 77 Professional on Ebay, for what I think was a very fair price (about $85 below the dealer's reserve). I've owned several Ibanez (including 2 now, one of which {a Destroyer II} I'll likley put on Ebay), but I'm curious to get the group's feedback on this purchase. I'm real current on the value of my other pieces' values, but not on Ibanez -- Paid $414 -- whaddya think? Like most, it's natural, and is in real good shape.

Can you give us the ebay item number so we can take a look at it.

Have you received the guitar and played it yet? What's the condition?

I haven't received it yet... condition described in the listing, see item No. 141944719. EMailed back & forth with seller, a shop in Salt Lake City -- he's got real good feedback, and seems pretty straightforward -- looks real good in the pics.

Well, the pictures aren't showing up anymore. Was this a Bob Weir without the vine (model 2680)? Seems like you did well. I've seen asking prices for this model starting at $375. But every guitar is different. Whether it's shape/age/originality/case. $25 to $100 isn't that much to worry about on price...if you are really into the guitar. Besides '77 was a good year. J

I know the seller, Guitar House (Shawn & Newt). They sold me my last guitar, which was also an ebay auction. It was in better condition than I expected. From my transaction, I'd say they are extremely honest and upfront.

Let us know how you like the guitar when you get it. I'd be curious to know if it has the smooth neck-heel joint and the brass sustain block under the bridge.

Even before I get the piece, I'd agree with your assessment of the seller... I dealt exlusively w/Newt, but he seemed a real decent sort... I'm surprised the picture is off - I saw it an hour or so ago. When you search, go under "ibanez guitar" first, then once the engine gives you the results, change the field to add "professional," and ask it to look for the inactive auctions... you should just get the 1 result.

Anywho, thanks for the feedback, and once it arrives, I'l touch base...

Well, I got it on Monday... it's unreal! Although I've owned about 5 or 6 Ibanez in the past (and 3 now, including the Professional), this one really makes it clear why Gibson was so anal over the guitars being made in Japan! It is SWEET, smooth heel neck, a real heft to it, and it absolutely SINGS. This'll be a regular player for me, as opposed to just an addition to the collection.

Great to hear!

Curious, does it have the brass sustain block under the bridge?

Yes, and it also has a sliver of slotted brass between the nut and beginning of the ebony fret board. These guys REALLY knew what they were doing!
