Shiro Arai was the first Les Paul copyist (Hoshino just followed his example), so historically the old Aria Les Paul models are actually more valuable. The ones I've seen so far were always set necks. A genuine pickguard and bracket and ready you are. If they are like the old Ibanez pickguards, they're 4 ply according to (Les) Paul Bakker. I've seen these brand new on www.backandforth.nl for €5.40 (bracket €1.50), if you can't find an old one. http://www.backandforth.nl/scratchplates.html Ginger |

Well, you're right.. BUT, That's an LS series model which had a set neck, but the entire range of LC models was bolt on neck and is far more common. I've waited a long while to catch something like that. I woke up 8:00am to snap it. The seller seemed honest to me with his description of the instrument, he also wrote to me that the neck is totally straight and the action is pretty low with no buzzes. The price I paid was 207 euro, I think I will complete it with a pickguard in the near future.. Looks like that the Ibanez models are being a bit overpriced because the same set neck Ibanez LP copy but with the name Greco on it would sell for much less. and Grecos are just as good in my opinion. |

hmm, interesting. You're right, I was wrong. I based my "facts" on what I read on other guitar forums. so seems like high end models of both LS and LC had set necks. A little investigation revealed that the model was nicknamed the "Leopard" hence the headstock, I even though 'till now it states Les Paul and I didn't understand why people told me it's a Leopard model, but it actually say Leopard there. Brilliant. ahhh, those copy days. |

The Leo Pard models were the younger ones, made long after the lawsuit thing. Japanese domestic market only I think, not sure. Did you check matsumoku.org? Lots of info and catalogue scans there. |

The info exists for the USA models yes sure. However it was indeed a domestic production for Japan only, and because it lacks the serial number, my seller told me today that they started '82, means it's an '81. Information on those kind of models is pretty scarce, to say the least. What can I say. I just hope it sounds good, that's what I'm looking for. |

Do you know if it has the volume and tone controls on a circuitboard? |

I have an Aria Goldtop in mint condition. The quality is below Ibanezs of the same vintage, but not bad. Ace

That looks so cool Ace! Do you play it? Tristan, the use of the circuitboard can pin it down to some years of manufacturing. That is why I asked. Mine looks like this. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v146/LesPaul68/A ria_ProII_pots_cavity_with_print.jpg |
