Six: I remember seeing ads for these, back in the day. I have seen 1 or 2 at guitars shows. I remember them being heavy with thick necks. Never seen a burst one before. That's purty. Not sure what this means: "This was made in the Ibanez to Epihone transition period." The volute looks "Ibanez-like", but I've never heard of a connection between Epi and Ibanez. Have you? |

Well, the seller obviously knows of a connection! I thought it was worth asking him to explain a little: "Hi - very unusual guitar, don't remember seeing one on Ebay before. Could you explain a little about the "Ibanez to Epiphone transition period"? I'm unaware of any connection between Ibanez, a brand name owned by Hoshino Gakki Ten in Japan, and Epiphone, which is a brand which has been owned by Gibson since 1957. It would be strange to discover there was a connection between two companies who had been at odds over design copyrights just a few years earlier." Bet he doesn't reply! Jon. |

I remember that the lead singer of a band that rehearsed in a garage behind our house had such a guitar in... 1980/81/82? What the seller might have misunderstood is the fact that Fuji Gen Gakki was mentioned as (one of the) Japanese manufacturer(s) of Epiphone, which was also the main manufacturer of Ibanez guitars for Hoshino. But if Ali Baba would have ordered guitars at Fuji Gen, they would have made Ali Babas, as long as mr. Baba paid his bills. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Epiphone Another company that made both, Epiphone and Ibanez guitars was Samick in Korea, but that was later. So the link is: SAME CONTRACTOR! BTW, this would explain the volute on the Epi. What do you guys think of the "scalloped binding"? Wouldn't this means that the whole fretboard has been "scalloped"? And was this indeed original? Yeah pretty heavy as I remember John. Honestly can't remember about the binding although I have seen it on Japanese guitars before. six |

Ginger, gotta' agree on that. Looks like the frets are lightly scalloped indeed. Not terribly, though. |
