We have various threads regarding these vintage Japanese gems...This is a great example of a real value in todays market....All the fit, feel and build of a 2630 etc........well worth the price of admission. I'd have already purchased this except I already have a couple of these.... Ebay Item #270165594285 |

Dave, I know, but people tend to think that any 70's/80's or MIJ guitar is a treasure. Most surprising is that every now and then somebody believes it and pays two to three or even more times the price they go for on eBay and other international market. Juha |

Dave_G: In what timeframe was the quality the best for Electra guitars? Did they have a "Golden Era" like Ibanez? tnx, mk |

Mike...The quality guitars were made in the same timeframe of most of the great Japanese guitars...namely 1975-1982.....but not all the guitars were of the same level. The early LP clones were very nice, but the quality improved in '76/'77 to a level that rivals what Ibanez was offering. Electra's focus was on the MPC guitars with the build in effect modules. Not my personal preference, but collectable in their own right, When Ibanez was offering the Artist, Performer, Musician, etc in '77/'78, Electra was pushing the pre loaded effects guitars.Electra offered MPC models throughout the various models offered. They also offered most models without the modules. These guitars are of an amazing build quality, and not very many were made. There are actually 2 differend Electra brands, the west coast offering (so noted with an X in the logo) are not of as good quality as the St Louis Music offering from Matsumoto... |

"Juha...Thats a very nice 100-150 Euro guitar !" "The early LP clones were very nice, but the quality improved in '76/'77 to a level that rivals what Ibanez was offering." This means that the 1976 Electra LP ("a very nice 100-150 Euro guitar") was not the best quality they made, doesn't it. '76/'77 Ibanez LPs, in decent condition, cost more than 150 EUR. Juha |

Juha....I guess its a matter of taste. Although the 1976 Electras do represent a build quality that is just as good as the Ibanez of the same era, Ibanez guitars routinely have a higher selling price in the secondary market and have increased in value where as the Electras are still real cheap. The pawn shops are still selling Electra LP clones-like the one pictured- for a low of $50 -$100 US, and a high of like $200-$300, unless the condition is DROP DEAD MINT-which will command a much higher price... I know you would-for some unknown reason-like to tell me what I mean, but you have it wrong. What I said was that even though the Electras post 1976 are a very good quality build (as good as Ibanez in many respects) they do not command as high a price in the vintage market (which is the reason I bring up the brand at all...I thnk that these guitars are a great value !. Somehow the "Ibanez" name is worth more..... |

Dave, Didn't we agree that 700€ is too much? We are inspecting things from different points of view. You see how things are in the US market and I look at European and Finnish market. A guitar that costs say $500 in USA, costs often 500€ in Europe. And this goes for old and new. I think that the prices of many brands (Ibanez' "sister brands" and Electra, Burny, Tokai, Aria etc MIJ) are rising to the same level with Ibanez, in Europe. But I know, in most cases, what is reasonable price for a brand/model, or I ask/check on ICW. Juha |

Back to the original topic .. A decent semihollow at ~ 550€ does not sound too bad, not even if it was 749€ ("fit, feel and build of a 2630 etc") and in Europe. I'd like to see some more pics before buying though. Juha |
