Trying to figure out when this Ant was likely built. I was guessing late 70's but am I wrong? My Antoria EG1935 Rock Star has a dot fretboard and a set neck and no serial number. Just a label seen through the f-hole that says: Antoria A quality instrument produced and crafted for JL Music Ltd. Model no. EG1935 made in Korea Everything besides the Bigsby style tremolo, bridge pick-up and coil-tap, is as original. Thanks for any info. Warmachine

I think it's more likely a much more recent build, probably 90's or 00's. I know they have a "JazzStar" line too that's recent and which isn't given very high marks for quality. |

Early 80s, I'd say. These are post FujiGen Antorias (as we can see from the "Made In Korea" inside) and are interestingly very similar & often identical to the Harmony branded guitars of the same era. I believe that's the traditional Harmony guitars headstock shape, too. FujiGen-built Antorias were imported to the UK by JT Coppock Ltd, but this one's labeled with JL Music Ltd. Possibly JL bought the brand & started importing Korean guitars instead of Japanese. As far as I know, the Antoria brand disappeared around the early 80s - but has recently reappeared again, once again on a range of imported copy guitars: http://www.adamhall.com/uk/AH_K--Antoria__l--en__p --project_2__k--245__f--1 Must say that LP copy looks a bit erotic - right down to the naughty open-book headstock... I'd go with Bassassin, early 80's after the switch to Korea and consequent headstock shape change and transfer logo ....just before the brand went into the wilderness for 25 years..... |
