Peterdryan? That's an ICW member!
And Richrhocks makes a $2.- dollar profit (minus fuel and advertising cost, so he actually made a loss).

Well, this guitar wrote history before...

I'm too rational for this, I guess.

Peter's a smart guy, he must have made some sort of deal for it. Maybe Richrocks threw in a Destroyer to sweeten the offer?

Threw in a Destroyer? Why would he do that?
He could sell the Destroyer without the Challenger for $1800.-
Rich paid $1978.- for this Challenger NT.

I Peter would want such a complicated deal, he didn't have to click on the BIN button.

This is a historical Ibanez strat, the second on the high price list, right behind the Dragon. I think that that played an important role in Peter's decision. And if I remember it well he also bought the rare white one with the rosewood fretboard. He's specializing, that's what he's doing.

Hi, Ginger. I was kidding about throwing in a Destroyer. I just assume Peter knows what he's doing.

Hi, Guys -

I offered him a lower price, he countered, and I accepted.

I ended up paying S&H so I got a bit of a deal but not as much of one as I would have liked.

I have a shrinking wish list of guitars I want and a serial numbered 2375ASH or natural Challenger is one of the last ones on it.

What I really want is a 68 Strat but that's not going to happen in this lifetime.

So, I saw my choices as:

- wait for a numbered 2375ASH and pay $400-$500
- buy a new Mexicaster for $700
- buy a mid 70s Strat and pay $2400
- buy the Challenger and pay somewhere in the middle

It looked like it was in nice shape and, since waiting has never been my forte, I went with the Challenger.

Ginger -

What's "the Dragon"?

BTW: it wasn't I that bought the white one. JohnS maybe?

Peter, did you see the Trio of Korinas Dave_g is offering in Free Classifieds? The topic is titled "CN250".

Yes, I saw them, and they're in *nice* shape.

A little too late, though.

It's a shame because Jack just bought a 76 Destroyer off eBay.

In addition to the Challenger, I just bought a fellow ICWer's IMG-2010/MC1/U220 rig so I'm tapped out for a while.

If those hadn't come up, I probably would have gone after Dave's Futura and RRS.

Peter:

No, it wasn't me that got the white one.

Man, you guys are wheeling and dealing up a storm. I'm glad. This is just the kind of activity I was thinking of when I started the site.

Have fun everybody!

Pete,

The Dragon is just an hand-carved (top made in Taiwan) Ibanez Artwood Strat (2408-1) I estimated just $2400-2600 TOO LOW.

There were 3 types of carvings on the 2408:
2408-1 Dragon (only one KNOWN on ICW now owned by Harry);
2408-2 Redwood (Sequoia) cones, often referred to as Oriental (which is nonsense, because it's an American tree, or cornucopia, which is nonsense too, because there is no horn on that guitar, just tree parts (Harry owns one of these too);
2408-3 Eagle (only one KNOWN on ICW owned by Orval).

The "Dragon night" in April 2007 was probably the most thrilling eBay auction night about a vintage Ibanez guitar, with a winning bidder that accidentally typed $28000.- instead of $2800.- and saw then that he had to bid $3500.- to get it in the last few seconds.

So actually I think one should put the Challenger NT behind the 2408. Probably behind all three... at least behind the Dragon and the Eagle.

But yours is most likely more fun to play with that smooth body.

I have two blonde neck through strat models and recently I bought a blonde Chinese Richwood bolt-on Stallion Strat but although I have more expensive guitars, it always gives me a nice feeling to hold a smooth Strat, the most ergonomic guitar ever made IMO, especially if you've developed some belly.

Thanks, Ginger.

I dug through the archives and found some photos.

It's a beautiful guitar but I can't imagine actually playing it.

How about nominating the Dragon for next year's reissue?

Or all three, for that matter.

Peter,

How do you like the Ibanez X-ING 2010? I've got almost all of the vintage Roland gear that uses the 24 pin technology, except for a G-808 (still on the hunt for one) and a G-202 as well as an Xing. Those are some great guitars and I love the huge printer cable size pin connectors. The 808 and 202 hardly ever come up on the bay.

Patrick -

I've been sick as a dog since the XING arrived and haven't hooked anything up yet.

I finished unpacking everything last weekend but I just haven't had the energy to read through all the manuals, yet.

By the time I get home from work and eat, I'm wiped out and ready for bed.

The very last thing I want to do is to smoke this gear by assuming I'm smart enough to hook it up correctly without RTFM first.

If I can stay awake long enough, that's my goal for this weekend.

That's too bad you're not feeling well. I hope ya' get better soon. I'm not sure if you've checked it out, but www.gr300.com is a great site for information on the old Roland gear. It also has a part of the site devoted to the 2010. I'm friends with the guy who runs the page, his name is Wayne. He really knows his stuff on this equipment and is really helpful.
