There once was a couple of Fresher "Strats" with built-in effects even here "In Da Far North" in my workshop.. Both suffered from "cold joints" in the effects section, but to be honest, I have no further knowledge of that brand.. Does the one you have bought have that effects-board?? |

This is from the Blue Book: FRESHER Instruments previously produced in Japan from the late 1970s to the early 1980s. Fresher solid body and semi-hollow body guitars were generally medium quality copies of American designs. However, viewing the "Fresher" logo on a strat-style guitar from a distance will make you check your eyesight - and finding a Fresher "Straighter" with built-in effects will make you check your blood pressure! (Source: Michael Wright, Guitar Stories Volume One). Fresher guitars were never imported into the U.S., however guitars do show up on the second-hand market and at guitar shows. Guitars are typically priced between $150 and $300 depending upon the features. The Straighter model may bring $250 - $350. Fresher was almost certainly an importer's name (chosen for its similarity to a Well Known Brand?) but not from the US, according to the Blue Book. Anyone know where Freshers were from? Jon. |

Jon, it is painstakingly difficult process to find out "who actually made what" on Jap (and other Far-Eastern) guitars.. I remember that in the book of Ibanez there is an estimate of 83-86 different manufacturers etc.. (small to large facilities & factories) who have taken their fair share in making Ibanez guitars & basses... Fresher might or might not be a work of a factory called Chu Sin, the said factory, according to M.Wright and a couple other sources, made quite a lot of F* copies for Hoshino.. |

Hi Fox - Don't I know it! Chu Sin/Chushin is one of those "wild card" names that comes up from time to time in relation to known brands. I only became aware of the factory after finding an interesting original design Azumi-branded bass, and research led to Chushin as the builder. Seems their best-known output was Jackson in the 80s. I vaguely remember a Jazz Bass with built-in effects, can't remember for the life of me what it was, though. Wonder if it was a Fresher, or a rebrand from the same builder? J. |

Thank you guys!! It's such a nightmare to find out who made what... I am very happy with this guitar, I have to say that pickups are extraordinarily good sounding, neck is very nice to play, so overall judgement is excellent. J. |
