Hi everyone! I am new to ICW, registered last night. Over the last few years I have been dropping by now and then, always seeming to "disapear" into topics, pictures and so on... and before I know it it´s about 2-3 pm... OK, here´s my question: I just bought a rather clean ash ´78 PF300 (9/10 cond), but the pickguard is missing, so now there is to ugly holes in the otherwise flawless top. Do anyone know where I can get hold of a new pickguard? And what would be the correct color? Thanks, and greetings from the land of the midnight sun :-) PS. Is this the right place to put Q´s like this? |

Hi mate, You are going to need to have one made. This is a tracing from mine. Just print it out to full A4 size and you will have the correct dimensions. Oh - and here's my PF300. Cheers, Munch |

Hi Munch - and thanks! I have copied you drawing and mailed it to a pickguard-shop I found in another thread. Hopefully they can make me one... Nice guitar, by the way! Is the tailpiece original? Is it a Victoria amp in the background, or do you go for the original? Thanks again! |

Hi Midnight, Yes tailpiece is the fancy Scruggs model. It found its way onto quite a few PF models. I suppose the Scruggs guitar was not as big of a seller as they hoped, so they must have used up the extra tailpieces on other guitars. The amp is a home-brew clone of a tweed 5F4 Super. A few differences though, its runs through 12" speakers and has a Victoria Bassman power tranny. Cheers, Mark |

Just be careful with that image. The first time I printed it (even to fit A4 paper) it came out smaller than I needed it by a few millimeters. I had to enlarge it slightly. I would experiment making printouts and matching them to the guitar before you end up with the exact best fit. Then snail-mail that printout to the pickup company. I'm buying blank stock from Warmoth.com and am going to try to make my own. I just made one in clear Lexan with some left-over stock I had: -Chuck |

A few days ago, I put my 2355M pickguard on the flatbed scanner with a ruler in inches and centimetres next to it and made a JPEG image of it of 300Kb. Too large for the forum but good for the e-mail. Ginger |

Tonight I crafted a new pickguard for my PF 200 using Munch's template and blank stock from Warmoth.com. The results are below. It's a good first attempt, though I think I cut it just a tiny bit too small (after beveling) and I messed up the placement of the screw hole near the neck, having to drill three tiny holes to find the one already in the guitar. It mounts fine, though. I have enough stock left to make 5 more, and I will definitely be making all 5. The last two or three I'll keep for myself, as I now love PF's and plan to buy more, some of which may need pickguards, but I'll be more than willing to part with my earlier "training" models. Stay tuned. (The clear one will also be available.) -Chuck |
