As documented elsewhere, I have installed a Kent Armstrong Johnny Smith Pickup for the GB20. Now I have only one volume and a jack. I wired one wire to the 1st post of the volume pot, and the braided exterior of the wire to the top of the pot. Also, the wire which attaches to the tailpiece is soldered to the wire braiding of the wire. This guitar won't shut up... It buzzes horribly, and if i touch the pickup cover, LOOK OUT!!!!! It buzzes crazily. Does anyone have any help out there?? Thanks, Chris |

Probably a grounding problem? Is the pot grounded correctly? Better to do the pickup and pot grounding independent? http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Electronics,_pickups/P ickups:_Guitar,_archtop/1/Kent_Armstrong_Suspended _Jazz_Humbuckers/Instructions/I-5068.html#details Juha |

Why not drop Kent Armstrong a note about the problem. It sounds like a ground issue to me...but where? |

If you touch a ground wire and it buzzes, the wires on the jack are backwards. If you touch the pickup cover it should get quieter, as the covers are grounded, unless the leads are backwards, making the cover "live" instead of "ground". Usually, they're backwards at the jack since that's the easiest place to screw it up. Or, the jack may be wired correctly and the ground wire broke off when you installed it. Do the strings buzz when you touch them? |
