I own two (used) Talmans with humbuckers, and in both cases the pickguard had lifted at the edge. For each pickguard I cut two softwood braces from 3/8 x 5/8 - inch stock, and glue-clamped them to the underside of the pickguard, using Goop, an all-purpose adhesive I have long favored when appearance isn't an issue. Space is tight in the cavity, so I had to notch the bass-side brace and position it almost touching the pickups. The pickguards are now straight and rigid. |

Talmanut: Cool solution. I've never heard of a problem like that before. I'm not that familiar with the Talman series. What do you think is the underlying cause of the warping? |

I don't have the problem on my two lipstick pickup Talman TC 630s, so it may have to do with the greater mass of the humbuckers. The routing is the same for both types, and it's a wide, uncompartmented cavity. Also, the screws for all these pickguards are widely spaced. Possibly leaving them in a hot car could soften them. A friend bought a used 2003 Mexi Strat with an aftermarket pickguard that had warped, but the same solution wouldn't work as there is no space to glue a stiffener. |
