Question Re: Installed Pickups

Author Message   Chucke99 Username: Chucke99 Registered: 2-2007 Posted on Tuesday, September 25, 2007 - 12:41 am:    I've just put a Kent Armstrong WPUJ8 into the neck position of my Greco LP and a Carvin SD into the bridge position. I admit to being an amateur at pickup wiring. Both pickups came with many wires protruding -- I assume they are for split-coil or other switching -- but for now, I've tried to wire them up as standard humbuckers. Following some instructions I found on the web (and reading between the lines of the instructions enclosed with the pickups) I tied back the green and blue wires on each, then soldered the black and woven ground wires from each pup to the correct pot covers (for grounding) and the red wire from each to the correct pot lead (following standard LP wiring instructions). Here's the problem: Each pickup appears to work fine when it is the only pup selected. But when I put the selector switch to the middle (both pickups selected) they are quite obviously out of phase with each other and I get a tiny sound. I tried just turning the Kent Armstrong around in its mount, but that doesn't help. I've done something wrong in the wiring. Can someone tell me what I did wrong? Here are some options I can think of: 1. I've actually wired just a single coil from each pickup and I need to incorporate those blue and green wires into the mix. 2. I picked the wrong color wire to solder to the pot leads. 3. Something else. Now, eventually, I plan to take the guitar to a guitar tech and have him wire in some split coil switches, but in the meantime, I'd like to be able to use the middle position. Thanks in advance. -Chuck   Talajuha Username: Talajuha Registered: 11-2006 Posted on Tuesday, September 25, 2007 - 7:29 am:    If it is a phase problem between the pickups the simpliest solution could be to change the hot and ground wires of one pickup vice versa. If this doesn't work you have to make sure both pickups are connected right to work humbucking in series and in phase (coils of one pup) and then try to get them work together. Juha
