This is 2871 bytes, 2.8 k, 154 x 205 pixels No wonder details are lost. Juha |

This is near the limit..it would be possible to do some other adjustments, but something (details, colours etc.)would be lost or deteriorated in the process. |

Here's how you do it at 78k:

How many dpi? Mine was 96 x 96 What size? I obviously resized it too small. I know now that there are two kinds of JPEG formats possible when I save from Corel Photo House. The one that I should use is the JPEG/JFIF interchange format. Ginger |

I use MS Office Picture Manager. It is simple but in most cases good enough for editing pictures used on the net and as email attachments. It suggests proper sizes or you can select your own. Sometimes cutting (crop) irrelevant edges off makes a picture small enough. I guess it is better think pixels than dots per inch when pics are shown on screens, not printed. You can see the sizes of the pictures above by right clicking (Ginger left ;-)) and selecting properties from the menu that appears. Remote teaching is difficult Juha |

Ginger: All the images I upload are 72 dpi. The steps I use are: 1. Crop out all extraneous image out. 2. Resize to 800x600 pixels max. 3. Sharpen image 4. Save as Jpg (not CMYK variant) with enough compression to get a file between 50-95k. |

Chazmo: Oops, not quite. Three things to check for: 1. Your file size might be too big. Some programs report the final file size in "K" which can be misleading because it doesn't mean "1000" bytes, but "1024". So, 98k is actually 100,352 bytes and surpasses the 100,000 byte upload limit. 2. The JPG file format can accommodate various options. One option is CMYK vs. RGB. It's not the norm to get CMYK version files, but it's possible and they are NOT compatible with the upload mechanism. 3. The only other file format that is compatible with the forum software is GIF (not good for guitar pictures). Do not save as BMP, TIF or PNG. They will NOT work. |

Hey Chaz... I thought I would let you know which guitar I ended up getting. (RE: MY thread on the Acoustic Guitar Forum.) I traded the T5 for the Gibson Advanced Jumbo. It is a 2005 built April 24th in the Bozeman factory. While the Taylor 614C was beautiful, (It was a custom order with ebony tuners, no pick-guard, top grade sitka spruce top) It just sounded too much like my 612C and may in fact have had less projection due to my 612 being 14 years old and the 614 being less than a year old. The 3 piece maple back was beautiful and it was a tough decision based soley on looks. Once I started playing the Gibson AJ with it's rosewood back/sides and sitka top, I understood why they call it the Acoustic Canon or "Bone-Crusher". It has projection like I have never heard in an acoustic unplugged guitar before. Go to this link: http://www.acousticguitarforum.com/forums/showthre ad.php?t=109898&page=2 Scroll down about 1/2 way on page 2 of the discussion and you will see photo's of my newest girl! |

John, yeah I just wasn't able to get MS picture manager to reduce down dots-per-inch. I could get 800x600 images, but they're still over 300KB. I don't know; I think picture manager isn't cutting it. Lofapco, heading over to the Taylor forum to check it out! |

Chazmo, Edit pictures - Compress Pictures and/or Resize will do it Picture Manager (sometimes) shows the new size only after saving the picture. If you want to keep the original picture use File - Save As and at exit don't save changes. Then open the saved picture and you will see the new size. Juha |

Juha, I used all these options, but couldn't get the images down to 100K. In order to do that, I have to go way smaller than the pictures John and Fox were able to post here. But thanks. I'll keep trying. |

So will I. As I wrote a few weeks ago, I bought a shortscale Ibanez bass. The guy who sold it to me didn't send me the pics (yet), but now I found one of the same bass, AND in the same colour. As far as I can see the potmeter knobs are not original. It's a Korean one from the very short Yoojin era. Let's see what gives the best results: Ginger |

In 1 and 5, I just changed the compression factor while saving the copy in Photo House as a .JPG Nr 1 is 44 K, so there is room for further improvement. So, now I've reached 98K. Ginger |

Ginger, If you crop it, you can use 2/3 of the bytes to make a better pic of the bass itself. Now less than 40 KB. Juha |

A beautiful plant, good for wonderful hilarious lyrics in 1978! http://www.lyricsvault.net/songs/14840.html These Rhododendrons are probably somewhere in Germany. But we have them here too. The kids love them as their hide-away, and when I was a student I had this girlfriend -whose name wasn't Mien btw- who saw this quality as a great benefit too... Pity the ones in the picture aren't in bloom... Anyway the picture is good enough now for a bass thread. Ginger |

O.K., I'll give it a try... 1978 Performer Tol Hansse Title Behind the rhododendron Lyrics Every man made her quiver cause she was so frightened and so scared and she wore mini-skirts of 1.5 metres long Once a lover came to her house which she left standing in his underwear He howled: "Honey, I love you Please, come to me, don't be so chicken" But Mien was in her nightgown Hiding behind the rhododendron Where he couldn't find her Just gone, how cruel and merciless Did you happen to see her maybe? Mien, where are you, hey, Mien? But Mien was in her nightgown Hiding behind the rhododendron Mien! But he was a sly-dog And dug a pitfall in front of her door In which he proposed to her In the lovely garden under the moon of love And before the altar with his bride his "I will" could clearly be heard But hers could unfortunately not Because she had silently left the building And Mien was in her nightgown Hiding behind the rhododendron Where he couldn't find her Just gone, how cruel and merciless Did you happen to see her maybe? Mien, where are you, hey, Mien? But Mien was in her nightgown Hiding behind the rhododendron Mien! But he found her back rather soon And when he had brought her home He said: "Dearest, you are my wife And this is going to be our wedding night" But when she approached the bed she got the fright of her life Her husband was all naked Full of expectation he lied there in the bed But Mien took off like a rocket And Mien was with no nightgown on Hiding behind the rhododendron Where he couldn't find her Just gone, how cruel and merciless Did you happen to see her maybe? Mien, where are you, hey, Mien? But Mien was in her nightgown Hiding behind the rhododendron Hiding behind the rhododendron Hiding behind the rhododendron Mien, hey Mien! That took 36 minutes. Straight forward. It gets really difficult if you want to get rhyme and rhythm into it. Ginger |
