Hiyas. I collect 84-86 Roadstar II 430's (10 and counting) and am in the process of refinishing a few of 'em. Yes, I know it blows the collectors value but I'll never sell. Anyhoo, No matter how tattered, I've had to leave the headstocks alone because I want to keep the "THE ULTIMATE EXPRESSION OF CRAFTSMANSHIP" Ibanez logo. If I could find replacement decals it'd sure free me up. I see Gibson & Fender decals all over ebay for people who want to make counterfeits. There's even newer Ibanez decals but I want to keep the classic look. Any ideas besides trying to make 'em myself with a laser printer? Maybe somebody makes custom water-slides to order? Thanks! |

Ibanez did not use decals. The headstock art is silk-screened on. The bozo on eBay who claims to have left-over factory decals is full of sh*t.
You collect 84-86 430's? Both RS and RG versions?

Silk-screened? Wow, I didn't know they could do lettering that fine that way. I figured I'd never find any real after-market ones anyway. I think I'll experiment with making some decals. Thanks to the fake Fender craze, there's lots of "how-to" info on the web.
As for my little collection, I stick to the RS ones. I have some Gibsons, Fenders etc. but to me, that particular model is the best playing and sounding guitar ever made. I also do crazy amounts of bending (Blues mostly) and the power rock'r is the only trem I've found that will stay in tune. It looks cool having a whole wall of 'em hanging in my studio.
It's kind of an obsession but it's a hell of a lot cheaper than collecting Gretsch White Falcons or something. It amazes me that I can grab 10 Roadstars off ebay for the price of one Les Paul.
I keep thinking some new "guitar God" will get famous playing 'em and the prices will go through the roof. Maybe it'll be me (or you). LOL
It's a nightmare to find parts though. I've bought whole guitars just to Frankenstein the hardware out to other ones.
Speaking of that, Do you know of any source for thumb-screws that will work as replacements for the bridge fine-tuners on those things? They don't need to be an exact match as long as they function.
Those seem to be the hardest thing for me to find. Everybody seems to lose those and the whammy bars. I have a box of Edge bars that work fine though.

get yourself an ALPS printer and some silver and gold foil ink and you can make any decal you want!!..
Cappy has some spares left for the power rock'r!!

Yea, thanks Spiro. I'm not really looking to make enough of 'em to justify buying an ALPS but that does look like an excellent way to go about it from what I've read about 'em.
I'm thinking of just taking some water-slide decal material into Kinkos or Staples and begging or bribing them to run it through their laser printer. I'm pretty good with photoshop and I can just use a metallic paint pen to fill in the big Ibanez logo outline from the side that will be on the guitar.
Also, thanks for the hardware tip about the Cap'n. I sent him a note explaining my plight. Never hurts to ask. |

Okay, so you actually collect '84-'85 RS430's. The '86 models are the RG430 (with the Edge trem).
Good luck with the headstock project. Let us know how it goes.

By golly, you're right. I checked the '86 catalog on the "Ibanez Rules" page and it seems they did quit making the RS models.
What threw me is that one of mine with the blade pickups and Power Rock'r has a serial number with "86" as the first two digits following the letter.
I was under the impression that the letter was the month made and the next 2 digits were the year. Maybe somebody Frankensteined that one together or something.
Anyway, ya gotta listen to a guy called Mr Roadstar when you're talking about Roadstars. Thanks for settin' that straight. |
