Author Message Ibanezfreak1960 (Ibanezfreak1960) Posted on Thursday, August 12, 2004 - 5:48 pm:    Today I went down to Hoshino for a drug screen which is mandatory for all new employees and while I was in the office waiting the phone rang and the receptionest says "Hi Jeff how are you these days" then she pages someone and says Jeff Hasselberger is on line 2. So I asked her whats he doing these days? And she replied he's in the advertising end of the music business. She was definitly a long time employee because she knew a lot about him. Just thought I'd share that! I am newly registerd but have had the opotunity lately lateley to get back into guitars, a hobby of mine (problably more than a hobby if you ask my family). My main reason for posting in this category of the forum is problably because I happend accross that title of the thread "A Funny coincidence!" Which I must say I have a tendancy to seek out the obscureness of things an noticed no one else has posted to this thread! So as an obligation to my tendancy I read your post and find it somewhat intruiging what you shared with the whole "WORLD" and yet no one heard... Sometimes like a no name guitar... (bare with me I'm just trying to be impovisational (creative)) SOO... the root of my post is that if "Ibanezfreak1960" (since I problably missed something since August)can explain the meaning of "JEFF"(have you ever actually met him and,if you have is it like meeting someone like Jimmy Page or is it more like Hugh Hephner (sorry JEFF I have found a few pictures of you(not in any of my porn sites though))) in your post as a surreal experience or someone that you knoe down at the PUB and shared your lifes eperiences? AND (straight up no jokin) Do you work for this wonderful Manufacturer everyone seems to refer to as Ibanez instead of Hoshino? AND lastly Did the long time employee LEARN a lot about you? or did you LEARN a lot about her? In any case, I fear that I may have breached some kind of protocol by asking the Commander questionjs that I should actually address to my immediate supervisor....(not nessecarrilly my local pawn shop owner) AND that CAPTAIN IBANEZ is going to fire me, (by the way I read in some post somewhere that the CAPISTAN appreciates misspelled words and use of fowl language). I have never met him but love his story of how he and others at Hoshino USA were hired knowing nothing about guitars and were left to experiment and develope guitars from scratch. so hearing his name kinda perked up my ears since he was an early pioneer of Ibanez guitars in the US. AS far as my employment at Hoshino I went through the formalities and was hired but had to decline starting because of a family medical emergency that is to this day on going. The opportunity to work there is still open for me when I'm ready which will be soon I hope. About meeting Jeff no I haven't and I wouldnt go out of my way to either.I justlike Ibanez guitars and the story behind its growth here in my home town. the last question I did not interveiw the receptionist they interveiwed me for a job position and that was that. I do have a freind inside who is a vital asset to Hoshino USA who shares things with me now and then. Somethings I post on this site and other things I keep to myself because I am asked to do so. Well I hope that satisfies your curiosty of my obscure post. I just thought it was cool that he had called someone while I was there. I wasn't sure I understood my post when I was done. I had just finished reading some of the no name threads in replicas and had recognized your username. To be honest the responce I was anticipating from freak was "oh I just joking around and made that up to see if anybody would read it." So I guess I was the one trying to joke around. I hope to someday be involved in guitar repairing/building as more than a hobby. I have been a Avionics Technician for the military for the last 20 years and recently moved into the computer "IT" world. One thing that I have never told anyone that I would like to become a Luthier who builds and designs guitars. I have about 7 years until I retire from my career soo... Over the last 10 years or so I have been seeking out information about guitars in general and for some reason my main focus has been the Ibanez brand and any guitar (especially John Doebanez) that could be found at the pawn shop that speaks out at you when you strum it. I have seen quite a few guitars that appear to be a copy of the Ibanez copy "quality" but have no name or model to indicate the brand. I have read some of the threads about guitars with no names. One thing that took a while to understand is, Why would a guitar ever be deliverd to the retailer without somthing indicating what brand it is? If all the parts are manufactured by a hand full of companies and then sold to any entity that will then go through the process of assembling those parts then the craftmanship and quality of that insrument would be the the assembler. Is this where Ibanez comes into the picture? only purchasing the instuments that meet their "quality" specifications and then hanging their logo on it and then send them out to the distributor? I think that statement a little bold to apply to the company nowadays but more applicable to say the seventys and eightys. OOoops I did it again.... damn wind!!! Captain Ibanez Johns Username: Johns Registered: 02-2001 Posted on Thursday, December 16, 2004 - 3:22 pm:    Rcx: The exact relationship of a manufacturer and its distributors (and an importer, when the supply line stretches across national boundaries) is not always cut and dry. Over time, the relationships often change. That's what happened with Hoshino and it's manufacturers (Fugi Gen Gakki being the most famous). Now, throw in the fact that manufacturers would offer specification changes, for a price, over the "base" model and you have a real bowl of noodles, not easily sorted out. Were certain "brand name" (used to differentiate between various distributors) guitars built to the manufacturer's "base" model specs or a modified version? At specific periods of time, you could answer both yes and no to that question with regards to the Ibanez (and Antoria or Greco, Memphis, Mann, etc.) brand name. It's very confusing, I know. Next question, why would someone manufacture and distribute a guitar with no name? One reason: Lower selling cost. Entry level musical instruments have always been a big biz. How many people have taken up an instrument (private lessons or school) and then promptly dropped it? Price, rather than brand name wins in that market. Or used to, anyway. The market has changed and in most affluent countries and no-name equals no-good. Another reason: the threat of a lawsuit may have influenced distributors to try and fly under the radar to escape notice. However, this doesn't strike me as real logical for brand name that had decades of biz dealings around the world, like Ibanez. Besides, there are plenty of Ibanezes, with names intact, with '75-76 serial numbers.
