Hey gang as suggested by Six, what do you all think about organising a get together somewhere in Sydney? Shall we do it in these posible formats 1:Drag our collections along and have a guitar show 2:Have a round table conference type day where we can clear up facts and fiction etc and see if I can arrange a tour of Australis Music take you behind the scenes etc 3: All meet at the pub and have a liquid workshop. hehe Please let me know your thoughts. Yeah, throw a few dates around and I should be able to be there. I reckon guitar show, but in the function room (or similar) of a pub. Bring along an amp or 2 to plug into for demos and we'd be set. |

Hi Cameron, I'd be in this too, and I'm sure Sweep from Adelaide would come too. I doubt whether I'd bring the whole collection though, probably just 2 or 3 choice guitars. Maybe we could have the show/conference at Australis??? Is that feasible? Cheers, Mark |

Ok gang we have a green light on holding our get together at Australis Music. I receieved conformation a few minutes ago. I am happy to say that all who attend will have access to ya Ol'Cappy's treasure trove of spare parts on the day at very good prices, so get your shopping list ready ! Ok, we also need to work out a format for the day. So any input you would like to give me would be great. So that Sixvsix doesn't get his butt kicked as a new dad, I thought maybe we could hold the day on Friday December the 7th 2007. That way, those who are coming from interstate might like to have a weekend in Sydney. There is a Holiday Inn about 8 minutes walk from the Australis office in Mascot..comfy and reasonable. You are also a 10-15 minute cab ride to the heart of Sydney CBD, So lets get cracking with numbers , who's coming etc. I would say that it would be a 9am start for the day and be over by 4.30pm, cause buy then we will all need a Jack Daniels by then. Look forward to your responces Cappy |

Acces to the spares stash! That has to be worth going along for in itself. Blues, No, not getting an AR5000re. Too much for me to spend and I'd have to get rid of something else. Plus I think it would be a challenge just to get one of the 2 coming into Australia. It'd be great to meet you in person, and if you do come, maybe I'll get to have a go on my old AR305 if you bring it! Not sure when the FL9 pedal will arrive - am looking forward to it. I'll have to get a leave pass from home (and work!) to confirm the 7th Dec, but I think it would be OK. I'll confirm shortly. I might drag a friend of two along for the ride. James |

Well, I can have a word with she who must be obeyed, but I'd say the chances of me getting there are slim to none. James, if I was able to get over there, I'd certainly bring the AR305. I need you to show me the riff to Smoke On The Water. |

Hey Cameron, Fompsweeva and I are making plans to come. So count us both in. You know, I think we should put our thinking caps on and see if we can come up with a guest of honour who we could invite. If this was pitched right to Australis, then they might fund the person's trip and use them for in-stores and such whilst in Sydney. Is there an Aussie name player who is known for their Ibanez usage?? Cheers, Mark |

Hi Capt'n...id definately be intereted in attending ..as far as long term oz Ibanez users i dont think you can go past Geoff Turner bass player with the Radiators who has been using the same Roadstar II bass since about 87..so thats 20 odd years now.. i attended the recent Countdown 2 concert which the Rads played and hes still using it ..did he receive a Ibanez sponsorship..?? best regards.. Yep, it's a Ledford 6601 that Rex uses on Idol. And Six, I don't think he will be needing to hire anything, from what I understand he has one of the nicest collections of amps around. |

Yes Rex Goh is a really nice guy ..he came out to the campbelltown Guitar World store quite a few years ago to do a clinic for Ibanez. played up a storm and had some great stories to tell about the various things hes been involved in..i ased what the ex QED members were doing these days..the drummer plays in Bonnie Raitts band in the US ..unfortunately the bass player Ian Belton had passed away due to illness..he had not long done the first Savage Garden lp which had done gang busters around the world..the guitarists were intereted in what amp he used for the Midday show...he replied a small budget Peavey practice amp ..which surprisd somee people..lol Leslie ps hopefully by then Australis will have one of the new 20th anniversary SDGR's to look at. |

I'll bring along my 17/25 AR250AHS Australis / Hoshino 25th Anniversary Artist for everyone to look at. Accomodation for our interstate members !!! The best place to stay would be at the Holiday Inn at Mascot. It's a 4star hotel so there's bars , room service gym ,pool etc. It's close to both Sydney airport domestic terminal and Australis Music. It's also only 15 minutes in a cab to the city.Below is a link to check it out. http://www.wotif.com/hotel/View?hotel=160&page=1&v iewType=all Or there's the Stamford Hotel Sydney Airport just down the road from the Holiday Inn heading closer to the Airport. Here's the link. http://www.wotif.com/hotel/View?hotel=903&page=1&v iewType=all Or the Hotel Ibis, this is in between the Stamford and the Holiday Inn. Here's the link. http://www.wotif.com/hotel/View?hotel=1791&page=1& viewType=all You guy's should save the links as you can keep going back and checking on the pricing of the rooms as our big day draws closer. Hey Cameron, I just sent you an email also. I expect to be coming along also and will probably bring one of my sons. I have a brother who writes articles for the Australian Guitar Magazine. I reckon he could do a piece on this get together, especially given that a famous Aussie guitarist (Rex) will be there. What do you think? Do you want me to ask him about this? He may want to come along just for the fun of it anyway - he does own at least one Ibanez after all. I'll ask him. James |

Well time is getting away and I need to finalise the numbers for the good people at Australis Music. Sadly,my old mate Flatbag can't make it due to work commitments and I'm sure the pressure would be on Six by now to get final figures on the t/shirts for the day. So if there are any Australian / New Zealand members that have not been intouch with me yet, the closing time for people who are wanting to attend the first ever ICW "Downunder"Guitar Day on Dec.7th 2007, the closing date for your spot is closing on Friday the 19th of October by 7pm EST. Please contact ya Ol' Cappy camb62@optusnet.com.au Remember....this is a freebie to come along , unless you want to buy a shirt from Six, and you can get your backside to Sydney and you would like to bring your finest piece from your collection..please do so. For the members who have already confirmed. I will be emailing you a format for the day as well as maps on how to get there times etc by Friday the 19th of Oct...hopefully, it's been a bit busy at Cappy's place lately. Look forward to hearing from you soon . Captain Ibanez |

Hey gang, well what a day we all had here "downunder" The Australis Music team made us very very welcome indeed. The showroom was full of brand new and not yet released items for the 15 of us who attended to try out and run amuck with including the Prestige Models...volume was not an issue let me tell ya ! We had the back wall of the showroom to display our guitars that we bought along. Classics like Munch's IC210...it looks really cool , Chin Hons 2 Custom Agents which drew alot of ooo's and aaah's when people saw them in the flesh for the first time after the restoration thread we had on here. There were also the late Peter Hayward's who sadly passed away last year and the owner of Australis Music's own guitars, #821 Jem 10th signed by Steve Via in 1997...this has never been played !, His 2404 twin neck, and a mint GB10BS signed by George Benson in 1995.We miss ya Pete ! Flatbag bought his IC400 and his latest buy a AR305..very nice I bought my Australis/Hoshino 25th Anniversary Artist which there only 25 in the world as well as my mate Rob Taylor's 1962 Model 981 Jason which was the brand Ibanez was sold under here in Australia back then...cool retro and still very playable. Dave O'brien bought along his 684E Hummingbird Concorde series. Snowjays bought his "this doesn't exsist" Sunburts Les Paul that was a sample for a 1973 California Guitar Expo...Yes the body is entirely solid..and yes it does exsist...no more arguments on this one please...disbeleiver's you are out numbered ! Snowjays also bought his 1973 Greco Black Beauty Les Paul Custom and his 2344 Melody Maker copy with serial number stamped into the end of the fingerboard..to big to fit on the back of the headstock...very nice . Poppa Munch bought along his hand made Emberg Jabiru arch top for all to try..Poppa Munch it was a georgeous guitar to play and I thank you for the opportunity to play it...I'll order one when I win Lotto ! Fomsweepa bought his 82 AR 500...sensational If have forgotten anyones guitar...I appologise. I would like to thank Kris and Richard from Guitarist Australia Magazine who came along thanks to Martin Gladsam Australis Music's Promotions and Advertising Guru...thanks Marty Richard was busy snapping pictures of all the colectables and Kris was busy taking info from us about our guitars on display and taking notes throughout the day. Our story will be in the March 2008 issue. It will also be on there website with a link to ICW as well...Thanks again Kris and Richard for you time.Johns, we will send you a copy. Kurt Schramm who is the Ibanez and Tama sales manager for Australis had a chat to all of us and took questions from the floor..thanks Kurt much appreciated Then it was Six's turn to have a chat and present us with our official ICW Downunder Shirts. Pictures to follow when I get them or when Six of Fomsweepa get's home they will post them.We got some great group shots of us all with both Rex Goh and Peter Northcote wearing their ICW Downunder shirts with us. After have some open discussions about ICW, we were then entertained by Peter Northcote, who played us 3 tracks from his new album being released in a couple of weeks. Pete's a very busy guy, but he stayed with us for about 3 and a half hours talking to the guys and checking out the latest Ibanez stuff and giving his imput to us all. Then it was Rex Goh's turn, he was busy chatting to all of us and he bought along his Ibanez Rex Goh Signature Model Artist from his Air Supply day's and gave it a good cranking through the Ibanez Thermion 120 valve stack...Six was blown away by his version of Little Wing...I got both of Pete and Rex playing on video..yaaahooo, great footage. Rex even autographed a vynil copy of QED's 1 and only album that he played on for Les Limburn, Les was stoked about that It was nice to hear both Rex and Pete say we'll be back next year Which Australis Music wants us back there as well and will do what ever is needed to make it a success . A big thank you to my mate Geoff Gazzard CEO of Australis..onya Jonty Pete from Allan Music Alexandria is a huge Ibanez fan..he has a beautiful blue floral Jem let me tell ya. Well they are keen to have ICW linked to their website as well. Part of the reason is that they are running Weekend Warriors and Pete is seeing heaps of guys coming along with "law suites" and Roadsters etc so he is going to pursue that and I will let you all know more as it comes to hand. This is going to increase ICW member numbers here in Australia alot. Thank you so much for your input Pete and also Allans Music Group. Thanks again goes to Australis for our wonderful lunch they provided for all members.. In the afternoon, we did some more discussion , then it was time for the gang to go for it in Cappy's spare parts stash...Artist toggle swith rubber rings were the top item on most's shopping list ! I hope everyone got the bits they all needed Spiro, finally got there in the afternoon to get to meet everyone and catch up The day ended around 4pm and everyone had a great time indeed. Thank you all once again to each and every person who made this "first ever" ICW day downunder a great success. I will get pics up here as soon as I can. Keep On Rockin' Captain Ibanez |

Captain: Great recap of the festivities! Makes me jealous. Can't wait to see some visuals. You must have tuckered the other blokes out, they haven't piped up, yet. |

Well thet had a great time, but now the journey home for them starts. Snowjays & family have a 2 day trip north from Sydney to get home Munch, Poppa Munch and Fomsweepa have a day and a half drive, but it's great when 3 are sharing the driving non stop. They told me they were leaving Sydney today (sunday), so we'll need to be patient for their pics etc Six, well he hopped on a plane so he was back to his neck of the woods in a hour Then I imagine he was on Daddy duties after a couple of days break. So we shall see what filters through over the next couple of days . |

Thanks Cameron & Australis for putting on a great day and Sixvsix for suggesting the concept to begin with. Kept us fed and hydrated, gave us freebie T-shirts, teased us with "great things to come in '08" without elaborating (we almost got Geoff to slip up with some info), great discussion about all things Ibanez, and of course heaps of gear to drool over. Pete and Rex entertained us with some great playing, it was good to put names to faces, and while a relatively small turnout, the quality of company made up for any perceived lack of quantity. The gear: Fompsweeva has inspired me to seek out local electroplaters so I can get my axes looking a million bucks like his AR500 with replated hardware. Chin Hon's stunning CAs... words can't describe. Those, along with Dave's refinished 684 have made my mind up about who gets the pleasure of refinishing my 2345W (currently sporting a bad finish on a good neck repair). Cameron, could you shoot me Craig's details? The 3 of those guitars looked 100%, and didn't have that 'refinished' look about them - there's a big difference IMO between a guitar that looks brand new to a guitar that looks refinished. I'll stop there with member's guitars, as they were all beauties, and I'll just be repeating what the Captain has already said 3 posts up if I go through them all. Had my first play through the Valbee yesterday, drove it with an AS103 and they made for a beautiful pairing. I must admit though, I'd sooner use a pedal for crunch over the boost stage of that amp, but for cleans at neighbour friendly practice volumes this amp is great, very full sounding with a deep rich bottom end and sparkling highs. Another first for me was playing through the Thermion, and I am convinced that this amp is a factor in Australis no longer being a distributor for Peavey - the Thermion delivers in the same vein as the 5150/6560 to my ears, but way better. Like the 5150, it's not a sound I would be after (especially @ 120watts), but anyone who likes 5150s will love the Thermion. Of course it's in the fingers too - Rex was getting some great tones out of it. Only downside to the day was driving home from Alexandria through peak hour traffic in a cracker of a storm - it absolutely pelted down! Took me over 2 hours for what would ordinarily be a 45 minute drive... Can we make it a Saturday next year? Whatever the day, I'm looking forward to doing it again next year! |

This is the second thread in a couple of weeks where I've heard someone mention replating hardware. I'm not trying to rain on anyone's parade but doesn't replating original hardware ruin the value of the guitar? |

No not at all Peter,it's worth it to restore your axe to it's showroom look. Flatbag, Spiro and I got caught in that storm as well...it down . Yes I will see if I can get a weekend date for next year. In respect to the Peavey / Australis relationship...no it wasn't Ibanez amps that caused that to end it was another couple of issues.Thats a story for another time over a Jack Daniels ! |

Mates: I'm extremely impressed by the great lengths some went to attend...airplane rides and several day car trips. Six set down the newest VSix progeny and the diaper pins. Even the Cappy managed to saddled up his trusty "Roo" for a jaunt (or jump) over to Australis. That's Ibanez dedication! Was there any time for discussing cricket, rugby or football? |

Freaky, you would have had a field day downunder and a lot of laughs as well. I'm glad the Aussies have set the pace for the rest. Pictures and video to follow when everyone is back home and settled again. A big country like ours can not get the pics back as quick as the Philly Guitar Show...but hey we are working on it John, you need to do a cake sale or something to bring Jeff H with you as well next year ! Who knows maybe even a 30 something reunion tour of Sal & The Holmes Gang live....! In saying that, they would not have to bring any Golden Oldies with them...we would have enough to cover that gig "downunder" Cappy |

Hi Guys, I see that a few have already been here to tell what a great day we all had. I can't say enough thank yous to Cappy and the staff at Australis for showing us a great time. Cappy, would you believe Six and I got out before that storm really hit, only to have to turn around and go back throught it 'cause I forgot my camera. What a traffic jam that was... I certainly enjoyed meeting all the fellas, and playin' around with all the new products on show. Tom. |

Phew! What a mad 4 days I've had. After arriving home Saturday, it was gear in the car and out gigging for the rest of the weekend. First of all, I want to express a lifetime gratitude to the Captain for putting on a fabulous day for us all last Friday. Many thanks to Australis who celebrate a world record 30 years with Ibanez in 2008. I’ll be the first to offer apologies to the staff of Australis for the 6 hours of constant ‘widdling’. Even during the lunch break. And a BIG personal thank you to Snowjays and Suejays for chauffeuring me around Sydney for 2 days. Thanks also for totally stuffing my face at the Sizzler on Friday night. I haven’t eaten anything since. Apart from the gear we all got to fondle and the amazing, yet humble talent of our special guests, it was a pleasure to finally meet some of the faces behind the keyboards of ICW. You guys and gals made the day even more special. Thanks for coming…see you next year! Highlight of the day …..just being there. Okay Mr. Shanley. Book your flight for 2008. Six |

Hi everybody! Well the ICW get together was a fantastic event. Thanks very much to Cameron for organising such a great venue and equipment to try out. The highlight for me was to see Peter Northcote play his Jem with great emotion and expressiveness. He is a true master of the guitar! Also thanks to Cameron for hosting us at his place the night before. It was great to have a chat before the big day. It was well worth the 2,900 Km round trip and can't wait for next year. Fompsweeva is offline at the moment getting his internet connection re-instated. Once he's on-line, he's got loads of pictures to post. Also, if anyone needs any repair/refinishing work done, Dad (Poppamunch) has offered his services. I am sure those who saw/played his archtop on the day would have no doubts as to his abilities! All the best, Mark |
