A while back I asked about the absence of the "Crafted in Japan..." testimonial on the control cavity plate of my A80 AR100. Some guys chimed in and said they often rubbed off leaving no trace...Well I've noticed the same absence of the testimonial off two 1980 AR100 transitionals on ebay US and Germany today: serial numbers are: B804966 and F805740. Is this just coincidence d'ya think?

Chip, It is very common that the testimonial is rubbed off, many owners-i suspect-completely remove it after a couple of letters get rubbed off

My D80 AR200 has the testimonial still intact. I think the AR's you are seeing with out the scrpt have been rubbed off over time.
