When did the AR series stop offering stuff like tri-sound switching and coil tapping?
I love the 300 but would love to have some of that extra sound shaping ability. |

From 1997 onwards, however there was a re-issue AR300CS made under the banner of 80's Custom Ledgends (this also included re-issues of the 2681NT Bob Weir model, the MC300DS Musician Series & the MC924DS Musician Bass ) between late 95 till 98 in the Japan domestic catalogue.These guitars were available for the Japan and possibly the European market as well. We never got any of these here in Australia 
Guess you better keep your eyes on Ebay !

That's exactly the same as the one I just sold. Notice the tri-sounds that are no longer available. Does it say REISSUE on the trc?

That's only the 2nd one I've seen. We're they only release in Japan? Although it doesn't have that vintage feel, it's really a nice guitar.

I may be in the minority here, but I really like the AR's without the coil tap/mini switches. |

The 2618, AR100, and AR50 (among others) never had Tri-Sounds. To ask when the AR series was "stripped down" makes no sense. The series has always had a variety of models and features.
I'm with Tim since I don't like single-coils anyway.

Freaky, all the re-issues I mentioned above were all Japan manufacture, this series was available between 1996 till the end of 1998. They only ever appeared in the Japan domestic catalogues.
Here is the scan from the 1998 Japan domestic catalogue.This was the last year of production of the re-issues

Just to clarify: Freak's AR-300 w/ the tri-sounds pictured above and mine which was identical were MIK. They were not the same as the AR-300 in the picture posted by the Captain. Regarding Captain's picture, these reissues used leftover vintage parts, including Super 80's and clouds, etc. Freak's AR-300 and mine were different. They were from '95, MIK, had Super 58's, no cloud and had newer hardware. Go figure that later on they'd release a more authentic AR-300, plus the 2681.
btw...several years ago I saw two of the reissue 2681's sell on eBay. If I remember correctly, one went for $1,500. I'm not not sure about the other one.

Mr Roadstar...question...ever played an '80-'83 AR 300? It's like no single coil I've ever heard and I'm no "strat" man. And, you forgot to mention the Parallel mode.
Just sticking up for what I consider a GREAT design all the way around. |

No, not that specific model. I didn't forget the parallel mode. I did agree with Guitartim's preference: No Tri-Sound/Duo-Sound switching.
