Did PGM900 necks originally have a satin finish or just an oil finish? If it was satin, was there any amber tint? I just got a PGM900 with a refinished neck, and the finish was way too thick and sticky, so I sanded it down. The color was much lighter under the finish, so I'm curious if the amber tint was something applied at the factory, or if it was the refinish job, or just the natural effect of 8 years on an original clear finish. I'm going to put either tung oil or tru-oil on the neck soon. I'd actually prefer to leave it bare, but I'm concerned about possible warping since I've read so much about the danger of leaving maple necks unfinished. Any opinions on pure Tung oil vs Tru-oil for this neck? Thanks for any help. |

Hi Simpleton, gee it's been a while since I had one of these on the bench, but I think from memory it was a matt clear satin finish over the natural timber. From new they were nice to play, but I would always give the neck a light rub over with 1200 grade wet & dry sandpaper for extra smoothness. Captain Ibanez |

Thanks for the info, Captain. Yes, this neck is great to play on. And the factory worker that put it together was probably obsessive/compulsive. Fit and finish is absolutely perfect. |
