Thank you for the information regarding how to read an Ibanez serial number, at least it has answered part of my question.
My grandfather passed recently and left me an Ibanez RT Series. The guy at the local Guitar Central said he had not seen one without some type of number; like "450" or something after the logo "Ibanez RT Series" on the head. The serial number is F306344 and says made in Japan.
Any idea what I have here? |

From the serial number, I'd say it was a '93 model. There were 4 models: 650, 450, 452 and 150. Here's links to the 2 pages of the '93 catalog showing the RT series. See if anything looks familiar.

What's also a very interesting RT is the RT240.
I have the RT240-VS.
What's so nice about them is the neck, with the exact vintage Fender feel (Fuji Gen had the exact specs) but with 24 frets and vintage sunburst and a nice tremolo.

I think the RT240 was a non-US model, very similar to the RT450.
All the RTs had Viper necks, with 1 5/8" nut and slightly deeper, they are more traditional than a Wizard, but they still have fairly flat fretboard radius of around 12" compared the the 7" found on pre '80s strats.
I agree it is one of Ibanez greatest necks, but hardly a fender. I've never been able to get into fenders because of the neck feel, but the Viper is great. |

My strat is a MIJ standard stratocaser 1988 with Kahler trem, it feels great. Same factory.
MIJ strats were better than USA strats in the eighties. Perhaps you'd even like these necks!
