Hi ! It seems some people still think Ibanez called the RG "RG" because it was designed with the help of Rocky George (Suicidal Tendancies)... It's hard to convince them there is no relation between Rocky George and the name changing of the roadstar series. Have you got any explanation ? |

I've never heard any mention of a "Rocky George" in reference to the Ibanez "RG Series". The Roadstar model number prefix changed from RS to RG in 1986. Long before the "RG Series" appeared around 1992. The Bear |

It's a rumor that appeared when the RG was released. It seems Rocky George himself told some people he was involved in the conception of this guitar... Some people still believe that... So I'm looking for the real reason of the name changing, RS becoming RG in 1986-1987 ! |

I'm not sure I follow. Only the model number prefix changed in 1986. The guitars were still called Roadstar II Series. The Bear |

I think it has to do with the existence of the Roadstar II bass guitars. Their type numbers start with RB (Roadstar Bass). Mine for example is called RB630. The guitars start with RG (Roadstar Guitar). Ginger |
