Captain,

Glad you are here to clear up some things. I've owned a couple of SUGIHARA signed Ibanez's. A Johnny Smith copy and a Byrdland copy. Both excellent guitars.

Seems there are a lot of Sugihara and Tsmura signed guitars out there. I've heard of a Tsmura collection and I've heard stories about Sugihara spending time in America working under John D'Angelico's tutelage.

Help clear the air, are these signed guitars prototypes that are then sent to the factories to be used to setup production AND what myths can you dispell as to who Sugihara and Tsmura are and who they learned their craft from.

Thanks for your help here,

BigMike

G'day BigMike, ok hope this solves the problem.

I will get a clarification from the factory, but to the best of my knowledge, Mr Sugihara and Mr Tsmura, were the cheif heads of production at the Fujigen plant back then and they had a lot to do with the total overseeing and quality control of the guitars back then. I know that these men were also master luthiers in there own right. Even today when we get shipments in from Japan of the Prestige models each guitar comes with a bussiness card size check list of quality control signed by each departments cheif inspector. One thing the Captain is very proud of is the strong focus that the mastercraftsmen of Ibanez still have today as they always have.

Much appreciated Captain... I just want to be able to say it right and not be spouting off something that isn't accurate...

Hey, Guys -
I have had a few of these signature axes, and while Sugihara is correct for one of the signatures, M. Tamura is the other - NOT to be confused with the Japanese collector. And where is that Ibanez history book we've been hearing about for two years now? Are they EVER going to publish???

Jerry:

The last I heard from Michael Wright, they were going to be releasing it at the Summer NAMM show. Check out the messages near the end of the following: Miscellaneous: Ibanez Book
