Hi Capt´n!
Here are some pics about that strange-coloured MC I referred in my mail! Of course additional opinions and guesses are welcome from other fellow Ibanezers also. So, here they are: Black MC300 that appears to be stock, and MC300 in natural, but not gloss, than rather in satin finish. Both are from Sept -78

MC300Bk
MC300Btop
MC300N
MC300Ndet

There was something wrong with my connection during the upload in the first try, however the rest will be here, I hope..

Here are the pictures of black MC300, what do you think about it? Both seem to be original colours, there is not a smallest hint about refins in either one. In that satin finish MC300 there seems to be an extra, darker veneer sandwiched between the inner mahogany core and the outer ash, it is visible on the lower picture.. So fellow Ibanezers, what is your verdict?

Fox,
You have some guitar collection. Would you post the whole lot so that we can all drool.

I do have a question about the MC series. They look great but I have only played on that was owned by a friend and It was quite bad. His model was kind of beat up and it seemed to be the lowest neck though model.

Unfortunately, this has turned me off to this series. However I love the Artist series. I have owned many ARs and I know that they differ greatly from guitar to guitar. So I can asume that's true w/ the MCs.

I know you've got a lot of both, perhaps you would give me your opinions on the pros and cons of each and which MC would be a good one to go after as a first purchase.

Well hi Eric!
Hmm..collection..I would not call it a collection (yet) :) Ok, must admit that quite recently I have acquired a couple of "real beauties", I must have been lucky. Maybe it´s a "good omen" caused only by my birth-year or something like that. :)
The main and foremost reason for having "a few" guitars, is that I have been a guitar tech for a couple of stores, a couple of bands etc. in the good ole 70´s and 80´s so I have put some projects aside, not to mention those I´ve bought from retiring players in the latter part of 80´s. First really good Ibanez I bought was a 12-string 2618 which I needed in one music-project. And so I was hooked in Artists.
Back to the business - the main difference between MC and AR is the constructional difference, first being long scale neck-through and the Artists more G*n like, in scale and construction. I would suggest that you try to get a MC300, a fair and square all-round guitar that is. Ask more...

Thanks,
Are there any with ebony necks or block inlays?

Eric
The MC400 and MC500 have ebony fingerboards, otherwise all are similar what comes to inlays, all have abalone dots. This is true also for the later Musicians, too. I mean MC350,450 and 550.
Those 400 and 500 models do have Ibanezes famous active preamp-EQ circuit, the same as in active Artists, so they are quite a handful..if you like active guitars, that is..
It seems that also Musicians are getting up in value, considering the latest prices in auctions and shops. And why not, they are extremely well-made guitars, although I personally am not a great fan of those 88-pickups. The later Musicians do have Super-58:s, but I haven´t had any of those models..eg.MC350.
