F 300 CW

Author Message Peter P Posted on Friday, February 13, 2004 - 10:00 pm:    Hi Captain, I have an enquiry about an Ibanez acoustic, namely model F300CW. There's one for sale in the local pawnshop for AUD$239. The serial number is 820600901, does this mean a 1982 model? It plays nice, the tone is quite mellow (old strings mind you), the action's good and the tuners (Ibanez smooth tuners) are great. Intonation is almost perfect (high e string is slightly flat - most noticeable around 9th fret - again, old strings). Paintwork is a bit scrappy around the headstock and body is a bit dull (probably polish up alright). Comes with a hard case (maybe original? - blue velvet lining interior). Does $239 Aussie sound reasonable? Captainibanez (Captainibanez) Posted on Saturday, February 14, 2004 - 9:13 pm:    G'day Peter, yes that is a very reasonable price for a Floral series acoustic.It was built in Japan June 1982 and was the 901 guitar built for that month. It's a Spruce top with Mahogany back and sides with a Ebonized Rosewood finger board and bridge with split block inlays.Yours is a Cherry Wine Finish and they were also available in Cherry Sunburst as well.They were discontinued around 1985 /86. Regarding the floral series, this one doesn't have a pickguard at all, did they all have pickguards with floral design? Still worth paying the cash without the pickguard? (Please note, I'm not buying it as an investment, I just want a half decent acoustic that I don't have to pay through the nose for). I put new strings on it as soon as I got it home, and it sounds great! The tone is unbeatable for the price (talked him down to $220). I don't suppose it would be very probable that I will find an original floral pickguard, do you know where I might start looking? Subsequently, I was most interested to read the above entries. Mine's a 1984 bird, deep maroon/red wine in colour, and in very reasonable condition (only a few minor dents, and some yellowing of the edging that I believe was previously white), and unlike Pete's, still has its floral pickguard. I ended up paying AUD$500 for mine, and also noted one exectly the same (but less yellowed) advertised on www.guitarcrazy.com.au that apparently sold for $1495(Ausie dollars)! I'm very happy with the sound of mine, but am left confused about the value of the guitar... What's the difference between the 300 and the 310? Have I bought well, or been ripped off? Has Pete scored a famous deal? Or has some sucker paid way too much to guitar crazy's? I'm very interested to hear your opinions. Simon
