I have an old early 80's V200 jumbo (left at my folks house as a spare)and it is such a dog in playability and tone I was almost put off for life...and THEN I recently went a ebaying (German Ebay is brilliant for old Ibanez)...and got myself a slightly damaged Concord 684 1977 Hummingbird copy for 101 Euro!!!.....60 pounds later on minor repairs and I am stunned by the playability and the sound....it easily has the clarity and sustain of a £1000 acoustic (I have a Martin 0001 for fingerpicking)....now if I can only get my hands on a Dove copy or the 12 string Hummingbird version!!!
BTW Captain..could you look at my post about Antoria Thinlines and perhaps answer the pickup question please...
Ta,

I've had an old Concord 686 Black That is very similar to the Gibson Dove. I bought it from a friend for $100 and have had it for about 18 years.

It's a great guitar. Sounds great, records great and it does not need to be locked up daily.

I see similar ones to this one but never an exact match (different headstock / inlays etc.)

If nayone has data on these please let me know.

There are a number of sites you can visit with catalogue scans etc...suggest you take a look at the next thread about what pisses people off...there is a good linky to the ibanez museum..and onwards to the brilliant vintage site based in Switzerland.
I'll tell you year and month of manufacture if you pass on the serial number.....

Captain Ibanez, (and hello to all of the gang!)

First up is a solid thank you for the many hours you have spent adding insight for all of us Ibanez lovers. THANK YOU!

I have not had the spare time that I once enjoyed since being promoted at my job, hence the lack of comments to ICW.

Having limited exposure to the Ibanez acoustics, I must take the time to praise the Artist 2609 that I once played at a friends house and then spent 4-5 years trying to find one in similar condition.
When I finally did get one, I was floored at how well it played but more amazed at the sound and volume of the guitar, not to mention how great the construction of the guitar is allowing it to hold up so well for all of these years.
A very good friend of mine, who is a much more accomplished player than myself, has touted this guitar as easily comparable to $1200.00-$1500.00 acoustics of the same era.(in 1976 U.S. dollars)
I also add that it is a much better guitar than my first attempt at the Artist acoustic which was the lowest model number & had the metal bridge adjustment screws and a thinner top which seemed to rob the tone and sustain of that guitar.

I have now started looking for some of the Concord
series as well after hearing reviews from others but I wonder how the neck profiles will compare to that of the 2609 that I absolutely love.

P.S. Anyone wanting to trade a VERY GOOD-EXCELLENT COND. Concord SJ,Dove or Hummingbird copy for a AR100CS or AR100BK please let me know.

Best regards,
Mike G.(maniac)

Hey mike,
You want a bargain?... keep looking regularly at ebay.de (Germany).. Ibanez Concords models of the various copies (684/693/647's) are coming up all the time (and relatively cheaply....I got outbid last minute on a twelve string yesterday...final price? 68.5 Euro!!)....Wherever you live it'll still be worth the postage!!!

My 1974 Ibanez Concorde "Dove" is the finest acoustic I have ever played, if you don't count the really expensive stuff. It ain't far behind them either, which is amazing in itself.
