Guy's and Gal's ( we know your out there ). In this thread I would like to get your opinion on Ibanez's inlays over the years. Now I know how Ed Roman loves to slag off or spank his monkey over the Jem inlay issue, but I guess it would be good to get some feedback regarding what you fellow Ibaneezer's like or dislike, or what types of inlay materials you think that Ibanez should be using in production these days....I think they have satisfied a lot of punters needs as far as the new SZ720FM model goes...............still wish I could get them to use the beautiful New Zealand Pau Shell for inlays...it ain't cheap, but it's a great material for inlays.....what do you reckon ? and where's Mr Thorn hiding these day's...Ron your into bat for your 2 cents worth...and don't tell me you still haven't finished that Artist restoration yet...I'm still waiting for the photo's Captain Ibanez |

Personally I love the full block MOP inlays - am partial to almost anything except plastic or dots of any kind! So much so that I've just ordered a custom Maton 'Stage' acoustic with an ebony fretboard and MOP block inlays. Cheers Russ |

Inlays don't do much for me. Leave it blank as far as I'm concerned (keep the side dots please). That said, I kinda like the triangles used on the old EX series. Blocks are nice too. If the price was the same between two similar guitars, one with triangles and one with dots, I'd still pick the one that felt/sounded best. Just my $.02 On a related issue, real Mother of Pearl is made from abalone shells. So saying the inlays are MOP/Abalone/MOP is redundant. But since most inlays are synthetic these days, it's probably a moot point. Cheers Steve |
