The Ibanez Register site only lists like 3 colors for the 86 RG420 Cherry Ice, Black, and Pearl. However I had a friend that had a 420 in a sort of purple burst. It was like a metallic lavender/violet fading to a very dark fuscia color...it looked awesome. I know that isnt cherry ice, I also saw one in a full on purple metallic. Would these have been one off finishes or were there a few made? Also was the 420 a rare guitar? I NEVER see them on Ebay like you do the 440s from the same year. |

That description sounds like "Purple Haze". That finish was ONLY available on the 1985 RS525. "Royal Violet" (Purple), was only available on the '84 & '85 RS440. Are you SURE you saw these finishes on RG420's? |

The guitar had an EDGE trem with 2 IBZ pickups, the locking nut was a locking nut, not a lock behind the nut. I am almost positive it was a rg420. There was NO finish on the back of the neck at all. This is the only I one I ever saw the purple burst type finish on. |
