Hi Jim,
After posting my "problem" elsewhere, Nuno said you may be able to help. Basically wondered if you could shed any light on this guitar. It's an RX series but has a mixture of features from the rx650 and others in the range. I'm wondering if it came out of the factory like this?

This is the RX350 model, TZ tremolo in gold, HSH I use to call this pickguard Fretboard Pearlod, It is teh same material (ABS) that they used on the fret board shark tooth inlays, It wa smy idea to use this material because it was cheaper than the celuloid from Italy Via Dia-mark in Japan, They did make these in Japan for other markets using the korean parts.
We made these in 1992-1995 because the Nivarna mucis caused The Rg sharp Bodt edge (edge locking tremolo) market to basically crash.
Cool guitars, I remember we imported the Magnum lock tuners on some of these from Japan to Korea for production.

Jim, just wondering... what makes this guitar a 350 and not a 650, when most of its features are those of a 650 (rosewood board, pearl inlays) etc? |

The reason I guess a 350 is the pickguard material, The 650 would have had Japanese peraloid, Agaian many models did not come to the USA so its hard to identify it for sure it doee not look like a 650 to me. I designed the 350 so it reminds me of that model. The 650 had a Flame maple top also and would have a transparent color not a solid color. I beleive it is a 350. |

Thanks for the explanation Jim. Pearloid looks like pearloid, looks like pearloid to me, but then i am not a guitar expert, let alone an Ibanez expert!!! |

Jim, just wanted to say great job on the RX series. The 350, 650, and 750 guitars made a huge impression on me in 1995, but unfortunately by the time I sold my Strat and Les Paul and started looking for one they were all gone. Searched for years before finally finding a sparkle green 350, and a translucent red 650. Still looking for a 750. I've always liked the Axis pickups and coil tapping, but the main reason I love these guitars is the neck. How did Ibanez come up with this neck profile? It's excellent! |
