I recently bought a 1996 AS80. I like the sound of the pickups even over the stock pickups in my Les Paul. Can you tell me who made these? Ive been told that they are the Super 58's. Are those made by Gibson? Thank's |

According to the 96 catalog: http://www.ibanezrules.com/catalogs/us/1996/index.htm They are the mysterious Super 50 pickup that appeared on these guitars during the mid nineties. Maybe Jim can enlighten us. Gibson never made any pickups for Ibanez, but DiMarzio and Maxon, among others have manufactured pickups for Ibanez. |

Thanks Funkle. I never heard of the super 50, but Ide sure like to get ahold of a couple to try in my Les Paul. I love the sound of them, but it could be the guitar pickup combination. The AS80 is the best sounding simi hollow body of that type Ive played since my 335 days and it may even have a bit better tone than the new 335's. Really would like to here from Jim Donahue on this, its very interesting to me. Thank's again Funkle. |
