What is the proper pronuciation of Ibanez?

Ah, I should have suspected it would have come up before. Did a search, found 2 previous threads.

Maybe I live too close to the border (in Texas). I just haven't heard anyone actually SAY the name anywhere.

In Australia it's "Eye-Buh-Nez"
But since it's a Japanese company, it's probably "EeBar-Nez"

it's a Japanese company but the name is Spanish, so i guess it would be: EE-BAH-NEZ.
i think it comes from Ivan, or Ivanez, cause sometimes the "V" turns into a "B" in the Spanish language. but i could be wrong, just my guessing.

Hello.

I'm from Japan. A few things I know about the name of "Ibanez."

1. Hoshino Gakki, one of Japanese musicshop, began to import classical guitars named "Ibanez Salvador Copy Of Raffaele Calace" about 1950s or so. It is the origin of the brand "Ibanez."

2. Ibanez guitars were export models until late 1970s, though their good reputation was known to some by that time.

3. In those days, we (I mean, Japanese people) pronounced "Ibanez" as /ibani:s/ (<this is a phonetic symbols), because of the letters of "イバニーズ" they used in their catalogues.

4. Later, however, at around 1984, they changed how to read "Ibanez" following American pronunciation. And since then, it has been pronounced as /aibani:z/ here in Japan.

Six,

Oh, I see. Sorry for my puzzling description.
In short, here in Japan, people over 40 years-old still prefer the old pronunciation, whereas
younger generations pronounce it like "eye-bannies."
