Jim:

I get asked about these guitars a lot. What do you know about them? Were they "quality" acoustics or department store brands?

The story of Salvador Ibanez.

Here is a quick review.

In 1929 Ibanez contacted salvador Ibanez and started importing guitars into Japan from Spain, The Ibanez factory was the largest in spain. These guitars were sold only in Japan at that time through Hoshino, Other countires would get them from Spain direct.

The guitars sold well but the spainish could not keep up with production so Hoshino started making them in japan in Nagoya, these models have Salvador Ibanez Nagoya Japan on the labels,

The Spanish Civil War happened and the country was thrown into a serious condition, All the factory workers revolted, Burned down the factory and maybe killed him, No one knows what happend at that point but they were gone,

Hoshino continued making guitars under the Salvador Ibanez name, Since he was not around to care about it any more.

The model on Ebay would have been made at the Tama Factory, Personally I have records on many of these models but I have not seen that one. It does have some of the feel of the Harmony guitars that they were making around that time.

I am not sure what $500 AU dollars translates to in US. So I can't really say. In the US these would get around $200 to $300 tops, the reason is they are only cool for collecting they are not player guitars, For a collection they are cool.

Is that he answer you are looking for?
