Jim: This question came up in the semi-acoustic section: "I`ve always wandered about what wood Ibanez used for lamination in between. For example gibson es175 has maple body made of three pieces ABA, which is maple, poplar, maple. Some of the gibsons have maple AAA construction What about FG100, AF200 PM, GB, ..??? Harold once said to me that on laminated spruce Ibanez usually uses spruce, maple , spruce construction." Can you shed some light on whether a laminated top described as spruce or maple in the catalog, is actually just a veneer of that material, with who knows what in between? |

It depends on the manufacture, Its not spruce on any of them, The material is actually made in sheets and it is thin veeners of Birch and Mahogany almost always, I have seen some Basswood used and very rarley maple. When all is said and done they put the proper wood on the front and back of the veneer, (Many times not even teh back) Then it goes into a press that presses the shape. The Laminations are about .5mm, and they are piled on top of each other till they get the proper thickness. In Korea I have seen all different types of veneers stuck in there. Actually I have the exact composition somewhere in my records, This was mainly for acoustic guitars but they use the same source for the for both. JIm Donahue |

is this means the spruce top isn't just spruce? Is this means most of guitars made in this way? |
