Why 78-82 was ibanez could achive best quality as commonly known among collectors? Is that oviously noticable difference comparing with other ara? If so how did it happen,and why? Is that somthing to do with Japanese economic background? During 78-82, Did Ibanez handcraft more than mass producing by macines? |

Why? Well the US market needed a good guitar in the mid 1970's from Japan. Every company in Japan was making copies. So Fritz and Roy and Hasselberger decided to make the guitars better at the factory and also set them up in the states,
This took some time to learn but after the lawsuit era by 1978 they finally got it down. In Just three years, to make that level of guitar was not easy. If you look at the world today only a few guitar companies from Japan Survived. Ibanez is really the only one that still makes Japanese Electric production steady. ESP does but really not many most are Korean under the LTD name, Yamaha has been in Taiwan since the early 1980's. The other ones are acoustic is Yairi and Takamini.
Well what happened in 1982? The Fender Squire Bolt On Necks. That screwed up everything. Fuji Focused on making Bolt on necks not set necks so by 1985 it was over and 1985 set necks moved to Terrada another factory.
My problem with the 1983 and 1984 models was the hardware Change over.
late 1983,1984 and 1985 Ibanez had some bad hardware designs like the Hardrocker and the Pro Rocker, they used these on many of the set necks. I remember working there in 1984 and almost all Artists models were not selling. the RS was the only line that was moving.
