Questions on the ar 30

Author Message   Ekkerman (Ekkerman) Posted on Wednesday, July 21, 2004 - 7:09 am:    hello, it has been told that the ar 30 ive got seriel n0 ; G830976 was only in production for one year ,but why was that? didnt it sell ? was it a bad guitar or what? are there many made and if not is it a rare guitar ? was it much cheaper as an ar 50 ? the hardware however is the same but is the wood that they used on the ar30 less of quality? hope you can answer my questions? anyway my ar 30 plays good and im happy to own it . i bought it for 400 euro's was that a good deal ? there is some wear showing but at least it was used to really rock !! bye bye , eric ekkerman   Jim_Donahue (Jim_Donahue) Posted on Wednesday, July 28, 2004 - 9:24 pm:    What happens with the Lower models is that they get guitars that have bad wood grain, These pile up and they don't know what to do with them. So they make a what we would call a Rescue model. usually 30 and 50 are these models, They are made the same with the same materials just usually painted a soild color and they use a less expensive hardware combination. The Exchange rate changed around that time so its hard to say something is cheaper, It was less expensive to make and then to sell. I have had a lot of AR100s with perfect flamed and burled tops - beautiful. I have also owned a lot of AR300s and particularly AR500 , 2622s with plain tops - more often than not. I see many lower models with nicer tops. Why did Ibanez do that. The Burled Mahogany tops were not used on standard models. Only on model numbers ending in 5. AR105, AR305, AM205, AM255, etc... As for the Figured tops, I'll bet it has more to do with the date of manufacture than the model number. Check the serial numbers on a bunch of 'em. I'll venture you find the flamey ones are mostly from the early eighties regardless of the model.   Ericibanez (Ericibanez) Posted on Monday, August 02, 2004 - 7:18 pm:    You are right! All of the really nice flames were early 80s! The plain topped ones were late 70's. And the burled were 5 models as you have stated. Thanks. That was pretty simple.   Ekkerman (Ekkerman) Posted on Tuesday, August 03, 2004 - 1:35 pm:    hi, just one more question concerning my ar 30. my guitar is finished with a pretty hard coating wich has cracked here and there a bit . there is no sign of a bad wood grain but does a bad wood grain mean the sound isnt as good as a not so lower end model? is a bad grain just something visual or has it its refllection on the sound a like sustain as well? (BK = black, BS = brownburst) AR 30 production numbers Total produce in 1982 was (November and December only) BK 206 guitars BS 286 guitars 492 total built in 1983 they made BK 630 guitars and BS they made 664 guitars. 1294 total built
