I know this is a site dedicated to Ibanez guitars, but hey we're all fans of greatly made Japanese instruments and Alvarez-Yairi's are really good guitars.
Back in the 70's Alvarez really got it's start making guitars for the St. Louis Music chain. Can any of the elders here - or those in the know - extemporize on that story. Give us the amplified version, as it were.
I have a 1977 DY-96 (which is a drop dead gorgeous acoustic MODELED after the Martin D-45, except the Alvarez has the most amazing wood purfling AND abalone inlay). I also have a really gorgeous mid-70s Alvarez-Yairi CY-140, which was their top of the line classical at the time. Gorgeous hardwoods on both instruments, what Yairi calls Jacaranda (a variety of Brazilian Rosewood). |

Yairi is a very famous and respected builder in Japan, And they make some of the Best acoustics in that country, There are I believe two Brothers and I think they had a Fight and now there seems to be two Yairi's making guitars. One is S Yairi?
I don't know much more than that. |

Speaking of Alvarez Yairi's, here's my WY80 I've had it just about a year now, and it's the best playing AE I've ever laid my hands on! |

I have a K. Yari (Signature) CY125 Classical Guitar, that was given to me in 1975. It is a fantastic instrument. The signature models like the aforementioned are very valuable so you may want to insure it. See if yours is signed by the Luthier that made the instrument. Good Luck; Mike |
