Does anyone except for me play the BTB line of basses? I haven't read a single review anywhere on the net, not even on Harmony-central.

Currently I own 2 LA custom shop BTB 5-strings. They are based on the 505 and 1005 but fitted with ebony fingerboards and various cosmetic customisations.

I really really like the production ones as well, in my opinion the best basses Ibanez has built since the Artists (I'm no fan of Soundgears) and the ATKs.

Comments, please.

Best regards

Greetings,

I am a recent owner(August 2003) of a BTB-406QM.
It is a transparent black, standard production model with stock pickups. I have been quite pleased with the bass. Other musicians have commented on the great tone. Other bass players have admired the looks as well as tone. It is my first 6-string. In my opinion, it rates with most of the high-end 6 strings I have played. The only review I have ever seen was on the BTB-1005 fretless and it was positive.

Thanks

i play a btb405qm and a btb1006eol.

both stock except for straplocks......

these basses kick some major booty.....

my favorite things about them are the wide string spacing, 35" scale and semi parametric midrange controls

Is its shape that frightens aspiring bass players, or are they afraid to admit to fellow bass players that this is one of the best 4/ 5 and 6 string rigs on the market at a very realistic price in todays modern market...and further more do you dare to step out side and take a ride with the EDA900 or EDA905?...I dare you to compare!

Hello!

Maybe one of you can help me out:

I own an Ibanez BTB400QMTK and a Yamaha BBG5S. I am a huge fan of the Ibanez BTB series and I'm thinking of getting myself a BTB prestige.. This will be either the BTB 1005EOL or the BTB 1205EOL

A nearby shop has a BTB 1005 for sale for €1275,- It can also sell me a BTB 1205 for €1119,-, but it must be ordered. So, unfortunately, I cannot try it..

The BTB 1005 at the nearby shop is (for as I know) the latest version of the 1005, so it has Bartolini pickups en electronics. So, it is exactly this model: http://www.ibanez.ru/gear_bass/big/BTB1005EOL-00-01.jpg

The BTB 1005 is out of the running here and is replaced by the BTB 1205. This bass has the same woods, electronics, pickups and so on, but through-neck construction and a newer version of the bridge (MR4 instead of MR2 I believe). It looks like this: http://www.musik-produktiv.de/bilder2/10/00/18/100018403xl.jpg

This would make one believe that the BTB1205 must be more expensive then the 1005, but it is NOT. Actually, the BTB1005 at the nearby shop originally costed allmost €1700, while the newer model costs only 1119,-!!! I managed to get a large discount on the BTB1005 because of the newer model (the 1205).

The salesperson is realizing he has an 'outdated' model at his shop, but (unfortunately for me) he also knows that the 1005 originates from Japan, while the 1205 is made in Korea.

Here comes the actual question: (sorry for the long story Smile)
I was told that the Japanese prestige BTB's are better than those from Korea and that this is where the price-difference comes from. I wonder if this price difference is also hearable: Is the BTB1005 better than the newer 1205??

I realize that now the Japanese factory does not make BTB's anymore, this will be perhaps the last opportunity to aquire a Japanese prestige BTB..

Just ordered a N.O.S. discontinued limited production BTB 600E (could not resist sale price and cool features!) and asking if any of you have any knowledge or comments about this model.

Features: Ash body; bolt-on 5pc neck; 2 U.S. Bartolini Jazz pups; Bartolini EQ; Monorail Bridge.

I'll give it a review after received, but any comments would be appreciated.

BTB 600E landed on Friday...and all I can say is WOW! This baby is BAD! Great fast neck; low action all the way up the neck; fantastic tonal range. She's easy on the eyes too!

Thanks Johns. It's a 2003 special edition model, MIJ. I guess it was hanging around in inventory a while.

As promised, here's my mini-review:

I played it at a gig last Saturday night. Both guitarists and even the drummer loved its tone! It goes from smooth and deep, all the way to slap-happy-funkalicious. The active Bartolini EQ system is very lively and responsive to minimal adjustments. 5 piece neck (maple w/mahogany stringers) is fast and smooth as satin. Setup and action were dead on. Came strung with Elixers. (Very nice!) Fretboard is very dark, nicely grained rosewood. The body finish is only lightly stained, so the woody tone of the ash really comes through. I read another owner's review about this bass on Harmony Central and he too felt it was one incredible instrument.

It's a keeper for sure!
