I've had this Roadster bass from new(1980) and I'm fairly sure its a RS900 (with active tone controls) but I've never been able to find any info or photos of the twin pickup version, doesn't even seem to be in the 79/80 catalogues. Has anyone else got one of these or any info please.

thanks

OK, that would make it a Sept. 1979 build date. I'm assuming you got the bass in the UK? I'll have a look through any '79 or '80 stuff I can dig up.

BTW, I'm going to move this thread this to the Bass section. Look for it there.

Yes, I got it from a shop in Chingford and I think it's still there.
Hope you have better luck than I did.
cheers

Smeefie:

So far, I'm coming up empty-handed finding any official documentation on a 2-Super 4 pickup RS900. Your's looks to be factory original and it's in beautiful shape. The only thing I can think of is that this was a short-run experiment that didn't last long enough to get into the catalogs. Maybe it was a UK only model? To me, a 2-Super 4 pickup version makes total sense. Don't know why it wasn't a standard offering, sooner.

I'm noy really a bass guy, so I can't help with a value.

Thanks again for looking, I've got one lead on the go at the moment I'll post any results if I get anywhere. As you say it's in great condition, it's never been out of the house, just used for the odd practice, my daughter has started taking an interest but she finds it too heavy so I might chop it in for a newer/lighter Ibanez.
It was actually a 21st birthday present, all those years ago!

I've found my bass listed in a 1979 catalogue, use the link and go to page 8. Seems its a RS920TV, but if anyone has info on how many got produced?

I too have a RS920TV -serial B800368. I bought it used about 20 years ago and it's been a great bass but lately I've been addicted to playing my Fender Jazz V five string which I had customer wired with noiseless pick ups and switching.

The RS920TV has a super long neck which is very playable and fast and great sound - I can make it sound like my old Ricky one moment and my old Gibson the next.

But the long neck makes finding a case a pain. I ended up with a keyboard case which I fitted with some stiff foam cut out in the shape of the bass.

Also, it's heavy and the older I get the more it hurts to play. Sadly, I'm probably going to have to sell it and my Fender V and put the money towards a Dingwall or a Warwick V and settle for a single electric bass I play all the time.

Which brings me to my point: Anyone have any idea of value on this beastie?

Oh yeah, I should add I'm still a big fan of Ibanez. I have a Roadstar2 strat and an acoustic Black lacquer F360BK which I've also had for almost 30 years or so...selling the RS920TV is more about finances than wanting to get rid of it. In fact, depending on what I can get for it I may just keep it.
