According to this catalogue pic, it's a Trisound switch.

"Select either humbucker, single or parallel coil operation at the flip of a switch."

I read that but wasn't sure what tone matches the direction of the switch...I can't tell up is a high tone, middle is a mid tone and bottom is a low tone

What tone?
It's just a double coil pickup, which you can switch from two serial coils to one single coil to two parallel coils.
You could listen what the results are for your perception.
The parallel effect is comparable to what happens if you put a 5-way switch in the position 4 or 2, or a Telecaster or a Les Paul in the mid position. What it sounds like on the bass would be a surprise to me too. I guess like the mid position on a jazz bass. Mostly the single coil gives the clearest sound (AND more hum).

Marty, as you hold the guitar to play, "down" on the switch is the full humbucker. Middle position is the "parallel" humbucker, and "up" is the single coil. At least, that's the usual way those switches are wired.

Good luck with the gig Marty - first of many, I hope. You can't beat playing live!

Jon.
