So I have a few vintage Ibby basses (an MC900NT, plus a circa 1973 Jazz copy) but I don't want to take those out gigging, really. There are so many varieties of recent Ibanez basses out there, and some look absolutely cool, with neck-through or even just set-neck bodies. I'm sure used ones could be had on eBay for a great price if one is patient, but which ones are the "BEST" in terms of playability, sound, quality, etc. Please chime in! All opinions welcome. -Chuck |

Oh, and I should add that I would probably want to stick to a 4-string bass, unless someone can tell me why I absolutely, positively have to get a 5-string model. (Six, as Monty Python might say, is "right out".) |

Right up until I got the "vintage" bug, I had a massive thing for the SR series basses - light, great sounding, ultra-skinny, ultra-fast neck like a matchstick, etc. I have two SR-800s, fretted & fretless, both from the beginning of the 90s, built at Fujigen, according to their SNs. Lovely basses, but sadly neglected now - my current favourite Ib is my 1982 RS924. I also have a metallic orange EDA-900 - very weird, both in looks & sound! It doesn't get out too much but I wouldn't part with it... Jon. |

I'm liking the look of the SR's, at least the ones with higher numbers. I've done some catalogue diving and found the 2004 SR900, 2000 SR3000 and SR740, and the 1994 SR1300 and SR500. They seem to be the high-end basses by Ibanez in those years and have killer looks. I'm going to have to head on over to GuitarCenter this afternoon to play a few different models (though I would not be caught dead buying a guitar from them). |
