After 25 years of not being used I had my 1977 model 2353 bass set up. The tech tells me truss seems frozen, any ideas on how to fix it the truss or how to find a replacement neck? |

First thing would be to take off the truss nut and clean and lube the threads and nut. Then,by hand, gently bend the neck back straight or into a slight back bow and then tighten the truss. That way the rod doesn't have to fight it.Sometimes a bass neck needs to be clamped back.If so you'll need two blocks of wood, slotted if the strings are on,at each end of the neck and one in the middle underneath.Run a piece of wood across the two on top and then clamp in the middle to slowly bring the neck back. I hope that makes sense. It looks funny now that I just read it back. |

Thanks, it does make sense. My problem is that the nut is frozen on and will not budge. |

Keep it upright in a stand and put a few drops of some kind of penatrating oil or the like and let it work in for a while. If it still sticks add a little more.I've also used a cordless drill at a low setting.Cut the elbow off a long allen wrench and lock into the drill. At a low setting it will act like a impact wrench(low impact)and should, given a little time, break it free. Chances of finding a old neck for a Tele bass are probably pretty slim so I hope one of these works. Worst case scenario you can have the rod routered out and replaced. That might get a little costly though so I guess it would depend how much you like the bass. |
